We have had two projects completed by Nu-Cote. Our entire house had the Stucco coating done and we had some windows done including a large garden window in the front of the house. Everything went great throughout both projects - timely completion and explanation all the way until the end. The project managers worked with us during the process to make sure we knew what we were getting and things were being done to our satisfaction. At this point a favorable review was already in order. Until a couple months ago there was a big rain and our garden window let water in through the bottom. We inspected to find a bad seal and water sitting inside the bottom of the window. I immediately called my contact and he came by not even an hour later. He inspected, gave a quick fix to stop the leaking and decided to call the manufacturer on our behalf. When put in touch with the window manufacturer, they offered a solution that, to me, seemed like a "band aid" as opposed to a real repair. I talked with my Nu-Cote guy, and then with his manager, and they decided to talk with the manufacturer. Long enough story short...they got them to replace the entire window on their dime and re-installed it for me. Needless to say we're very appreciative and it was very professional for Nu-Cote to deal with the manufacturer themselves instead of having me fight it out on my own. I'm extremely pleased with the results, the follow up and the professionalism we experienced throughout the entire process and fully expect to use Nu-Cote for any future projects I may have. Thanks!

I recently had my home Text-Coated by Nu-Cote and had an excellent experience to share. Brian was our Project Manager and Jesus was the field Manager. They both did an outstanding job working with us and making sure we got what we wanted and were happy with the work. Brian worked very closely with us to come up with a perfect color scheme for our home. He stayed in contact with us during the entire process making sure we were happy with the work taking place. He is a young energetic guy and a pleasure to work with. Jesus - I honestly cannot say enough about the wonderful work he and his team did on our home. The transformation was just amazing. Jesus has great "people skills" and was so easy for us to communicate with. He fully understood what we wanted and kept us in the loop every step of the way. I would work with him again in a heartbeat if the opportunity ever comes up. My project would have been complete in a week if it weren't for several days of rain during the process. The team was there all day every day they were able to work until it was finished. I never once felt that other jobs were more important than mine as I had the same guys there every dry day until it was done and I was 100% satisfied. I would recommend Nu-Cote without hesitation.
We had windows replaced and the house and outbuildings Tex-Coated. I couldn't be happier with the quality of work, or quality of the teams that did the work. The teams, and team leaders for both jobs were wonderful. Easy to talk to, and very focused on getting it right the first time. The team leader / supervisor was on site 90% of the time, unlike the two other contractors we have used where there was no supervision, and the people doing the work didn't speak English. Nu Cotes supervisors had the authority to do whatever it took to make us happy - good management! The quality of work is excellent. They installed the windows during the rain season. One window leaked, they fixed it and verified it by having me blast the window with a hose. Many storms later, no further leaks. The biggest picture window had a smudge inside the dual pane, it was swapped out within several days. They pressure washed the house in preparation for paint, then rain delayed application. The pressure washed again to make sure they had good bonding. We used 4 different colors. The borders were very straight and crisp, on stucco! I recommend this company whole heartedly.
I have the great pleasure of highly recommending Nu-Cote to anyone considering this system of house "painting". I have had worked with many contractors over the last 30 years. From room additions to bathroom renovations, to kitchen remodel, but I can honestly say Nu-Cote tops them all. The delightful saleman Michael Martinez who carefully explained the process of Nu-Cote--how it's done and the time frame in which it is accomplished. The Field Supervisor Jerry Enfinger who called promptly as Michael had said he would and told us he would be by on Monday. And, what do you know --HE WAS HERE ON MONDAY!! And all during the Nu-Cote process, Jerry was by keeping an eye on the proceedings. And of course I cannot forget or say enough about the crew who did all the hard work--Matteo and Sergio--are the best of the best. And now for the grand finale--Jerry said the work woul be done on Friday--and--THEY WERE DONE ON FRIDAY!!! When has that ever happened??!! Nu-cote--you guys are the champions in my book!

I have employed Custom Painting Unlimited to maintain my house for the past 15years .Their work has always been in accordance with the commitments as defined in the work proposals and the quality of their work has always been superb. Larry the owner starts the job and completes it when promised. His attitude towards detail is excellent and he keeps me informed on a daily basis.. Mr. Duquette is truly an expert in all phases of Exterior as well Interior painting. He is also very skilled in cabinet refurbishing and painting. This past year he completely modified and updated my kitchen cabinets. In addition to being a superior painter, Larry has extremely high integrity, values, and standards. After 15years of having Larry take charge of all my painting needs ,I decided to thank him for all to see. Thanks Larry.
Dear Nu-Cote, I just wanted to take a moment to let you know that your product Tex-Cote is truly living up to your advertising. I live in Fallbrook,CA where temperatures can reach three digits in the summer and i dont have air conditioning. My house is extremely well insulated. Before applying Tex-Cote I commonly could leave the house closed up to keep the cool in untill about 3:00pm, then i would have to open up and let the heat in. Now i can leave the house closed up until it's actually cooler outside;about 6:00pm. When i open now, the cool air flow in. Tex-Cote has given me that last little edge I needed against the heat. Thank you for a job well done. Best regards, Faith Flores
Larry and his son did a great job with difficult challenges. Tall cathedral ceilings, painting over old oil-based paint, and working with and around flooring and cabinet installations. He is very conscious of taking care of carpeting and baseboards. He also helped us by putting new paint on shutters that were over twenty years old, many with severe sun damage. He moves carefully, but works quickly to complete the job. His bid was very fair and when asked to do additional areas, did not inflate his prices. Larry has worked for three other members of our family with the same result. I will contact him for the next painitin job.
Gold Coast Designs have provided us with excellent service and extremely good quality workmanship on every job they have ever done for us. From relatively small jobs like house painting to major jobs, such as tile flooring in the bathroom and remodeling our kitchen. The workers who came out and worked on our house are really tidy and very respectful of personal property. They tape and cover everything and clean up at the end of the day as much as they can to minimize the inconvenience. Their prices are very competitive and fair and I would recommend them without hesitation for anything.
Sal gave us the most reasonable of 3 estimates. He planned everything out well before arrival and his team did a professional job. They moved things out of the way (taking care of the heavy lifting) and power washed the house. Then the team of painters came in and had eveything done quickly. They were courtious to the family and careful in their work. They did my dad's house inside and out a few years ago and I was impressed with them at that point. I guess dad really does know best. I would recommend them to anyone.
Painting can be a significant undertaking, whether you're painting just one room or an entire home. While some people like to take on this project themselves, many choose to hire professionals to ensure the task is completed correctly.
Types of Interior Paint
Matte paint doesn't have a shiny quality when it dries, which many homeowners prefer for their interior walls. This is the most popular style of paint for homes. It covers up irregularities in the wall well but is also easily blemished.
Matte Enamel Paint
Matte enamel paint has all the positive qualities of matte paint but will last longer and isn't scuffed as easily.
Gloss paint will dry with a shine to it and is the second-most popular choice for interior wall paint. The shiny quality highlights imperfections in a surface, so people tend to stay away from it when painting wood.
Semi-gloss is also shiny but less so than gloss paint. It's more commonly used on trim than on walls.
Satin falls somewhere between gloss and matte in terms of shininess. It will highlight imperfections well, like gloss, but is easy to clean.
Eggshell is also between gloss and matte on the shininess scale, but it won't highlight imperfections quite as much as satin, semi-gloss, or gloss.
Types of Exterior Paint
Exterior paints have similar choices for finishes as interior paints, but the pros and cons can be different for outdoor use.
Though gloss paint will make imperfections easily seen, it will also hold up to the elements the best. This paint is best suited for areas of a home or building that are frequently used, like door frames.
Semi-gloss paint is similarly long-lasting but isn't as shiny as gloss.
Satin paint is commonly used for siding but will display irregularities underneath if the siding isn't in good shape.
Flat paint is the best choice if painting over siding that has many dents, scrapes, or other imperfections.
If you're repainting a home that has been previously painted with oil-based paint, your best bet is to stick with this option. Water-based paint layered over old oil-based paint will peel easily.
Water-based paint, or latex paint, dries quickly and cleans up easily, making it the preferred paint for a home's exterior. It will also expand when warm and contract when cool, which means it will hold up in all types of weather.
Hiring a Painter
When embarking on a project as big as painting your home, it's important to know ahead of time what kind of quality you can expect from the painters you hire. Don't settle for the first one you find or the cheapest option. Instead, do your homework to be sure that you hire a trustworthy professional who knows how to paint a house well.
The first thing you'll do when hiring a painter is request quotes from three or four in your area. If you reach out to too many, you'll wind up wasting time narrowing down your list; too few and you may not end up with the best quality or right price.
The typical price range for an interior paint job is between $400 and $4,120, with the average falling around $1,670, depending on the scope of the project and paint requests. It will typically cost around $380 to $790 to paint a typical 10-by-12 foot room.
The cost to paint a home's exterior is a little higher: between $730 and $5,600, with an average of $2,624. The typical home of between 500 and 1,500 square feet will generally cost between $1,000 and $3,000, but this will change depending on the number of stories and home location.
If a quote seems high, ask the contractor what is increasing the price point. Perhaps it's something that can be negotiated, or maybe this business is just overpricing their services. On the other hand, be skeptical of any price points that seem unfathomably low. There could be a reason their prices are below the industry norm - perhaps their quality standards are uncommonly low, too.
Once you have quotes, conduct an over-the-phone interview with your prospects. Some important questions to ask your painter include:
1. Do you have insurance?
It's never a good idea to hire a contractor whose business isn't properly insured. Ask both about comprehensive business liability insurance and workers' compensation, and don't be hesitant to ask for proof. If you are unsure of the validity of the insurance, you can also call the insurance company to double-check that it is an active policy.
2. Do you have a warranty?
Not offering a warranty is a red flag, and you may want to be cautious about hiring a company that doesn't provide one. If they have a warranty, ask how long it lasts, and what it covers. Additionally, you'll want to get the warranty in writing should you need to refer to it later.
3. Who, specifically, will be in my house, and can I trust them?
You always have a right to know who will be entering your home. If the person you are speaking with says he or she will not be personally supervising the project, ask who will be, what their role is, and how long they've been with the company.
Also, don't be afraid to ask if the painters are trustworthy people. Unfortunately, there are plenty of cases where a painter has stolen items from a home or caused damage to the house or injury to the homeowner. Subcontractors may not be as skilled as employees, and the contractor you're hiring may not have much experience working with them, making them more of a risk. Additionally, ask if the painters are employees or subcontractors, and what the screening or hiring process is like. If the company conducts background checks, that's a good sign.
4. What kind of training do your employees receive?
If the contractor makes a point to train new hires on safety techniques as well as quality standards on the job, you're probably in good hands.
5. What kind of paint will you use?
The quality of the paint will affect how good the walls look when the project is completed. If your contractor says they plan on using a paint you don't like, feel free to request an alternative.
6. How long have you been in business, and do you have references?
A well-established company will have more experience and likely more references for you to reach out to than a new company that's just getting off the ground. Be sure to ask for references so you can speak to former customers about their experience working with the painter. When speaking to these people, ask about:
- Whether they had issues with the crew
- If the painters were messy or neat
- How the paint has held up since the project was completed
7. How much wall prep is included in the price?
For a long-lasting paint job, a clean wall is crucial. Ask how they plan to clean your walls, if at all, before getting started. A high-quality company will thoroughly prepare a wall so that the paint will lay smoothly and last a long time.
8. Are you active in the community and are you involved in any trade organizations?
Community involvement shows the company:
- Is established and well-known
- Cares about its customers
- Is confident in their work
Additionally, being active in trade organizations indicates it is likely up to date on the latest industry best practices and that the company is dedicated to its trade. Also, a Better Bureau Business membership demonstrates the company is stable, confident, and willing to let potential customers check them out before hiring them.
Trade Organizations for Painters
If the company you hire is involved in a trade organization, it shows they take pride in their work, and are dedicated to providing quality service. Some top trade organizations painters might be a part of include:
Painting and Decorating Contractors of America
PDCA connects painters and home decorators through local chapters and councils. The organization also provides webinars, educational videos, and podcasts so members can stay up to date on the latest best practices and news.
American Coatings Association
The ACA doesn't focus on best practices so much as it does on best products. The nonprofit is dedicated to research and development of high-quality paint products as well as sustainability issues.
Finishing Contractors Association
The FCA has members that are painters as well as professionals who focus on flooring, drywall, and other elements to home construction and renovation.
Better Business Bureau
The BBB isn't a painter-specific group but rather an organization that is dedicated to ensuring that consumers can access information about anyone they do business with. The BBB also rates companies based on a Standards of Trust scale, which goes from A+ to F. A company doesn't have to be a member to get a grade, and it's a good idea to check to see how your contractor is scored as well as its membership status.
