I've been going here for five or six years, and never had any issues with renting. The prices are very good, the scenery is awesome, and the beach at the end is very nice. It can get busy, but the employees are always working diligently. It's about 45-am hour one way, so you definitely get your money's worth. Awesome for big groups and small to flit down the river for a while.
I think this place is great....very reasonable prices (cash only). We travel from harbor beach to canoe here...It can get a little hectic if there is a bunch of people showing up all at the same time but you just wait your turn.....all in all we love coming here. We have been canoeing here for the past 4 years or so, usually twice a year. We have come with adults and with children. Everyone has had a blast.....a very calm, relaxing canoe/kayak trip that usually takes about 45 mins to an hour (one way). you canoe for about an hour and end up on a beautiful small sandy beach with calm water on one side and the lake water on the other... I love this place and each year we try to recruit more people to come with us,
Prices were good but that is about it. The service there was awful. I know it was bad for me and my girlfriend because we brought our own kayaks. They will allow you to put in there but only if you are with someone that rented. Expect to be treated poorly though because of it. My friends that did rent from them later said independently of my experience that they received bad service. They stood around waiting to rent a kayak as employees walked around them for a while without acknowledging their presence. Once my friends were finally put in the water my girlfriend and I had to put in as well. I went to hand my friends a cooler while I was still on the beach. We both had our arms outstretched towards each other with cooler nearly to them and an employee of Tip-A-Thumb walked up behind me and kicked their kayak out into the river. I was standing there with the cooler just amazed that he did that. Outright disrespectful. All 4 of us couldn't help but feel that they don't like people from out of town. Doesn't make much sense since that is a tiny town and any money coming in is big for them. If you can avoid renting from here I would do so. It may be tough since they are the only guys around. Buy some tubes and put in closer to the lake, the first half of the river is pretty gross looking anyway. I am not going back unless I have no choice.
