Great Customer Service

I think Fair Bean is a great place to go by and enjoy a coffee or tea. I especially love their cafe mochas and how they serve them in actual coffee cups (makes me feel at home).
Every time I have been to Fair Bean I have been greeted by baristas that are friendly and personal.
I believe Fair Bean is a great asset to the local community and that's why I would recommend them to my friends.
I think I will go by Fair Bean right now, I suggest you do the same.

as fresh as it gets

I went looking for a coffee shop I'd never been to, and this Sunday I stopped in at the Fair Bean. Now, I've read the other reviews, and what I haven't heard mentioned thus far is just how serious this guy (the owner) is about making great coffee. I mean, the Dude was cooking (baking) some beans when I was there. You ever see one of the folks at Starbucks cooking their own? Not me. The coffee was great! Pretty cool place.

Free wifi.

I have to say the concept is good, the location is fabulous and the free wifi is exceptional. Though my husband is the coffee drinker says the coffee is just not strong enough. I too, as another reviewer said, would like to support local businesses. I have been to this coffee shoppe several times. and I can't help feeling a little unwelcome. The decor has a urban-chic polished cement warehouse feel. Maybe the "" coldness"" comes from the decor but, it might just have something to do with the management of the place. The Baristas don't say hi when you come up to the counter to order and if they do, there's a lack of sincerity and when answering your questions or taking your order, too. It's a little intimidating getting coffee from a new establishment as they don't all do the same things. Or, maybe it could be that they think I'm not local enough for them as they have never seen me before those two times I came in (I just moved from Atlanta into that very neighborhood just seconds away!). At any rate, I don't know if I'll be returning.

Disappointing

I keep trying to give Fair Bean a chance and I walk away disappointed every time. My first visit, I actually had to instruct the barista on how to make a latte, which was bizarre. All 3 trips, which I've spaced out months apart, there has not been an improvement in their product. I ordered a latte today from a very surly and annoyed barista and it was horrible. No wonder the place is always empty when I drive by. Aside from having to work on their customer service skills, these employees need a barista bootcamp to whip them into shape.
I love supporting local businesses, but poor service and inconsistent product keeps driving me back to places like Starbucks.

6-months Update - Fair Bean Coffee

Disclaimer - I'm the owner of Fair Bean Coffee

Here?s a list of what we have that stands out:

1) On-site roasting done almost daily, guaranteeing freshness of the Coffee we serve and the beans we sell in bulk (seven different kinds; four of them fairly traded). This allows for tight control over the taste of the Coffee, giving us an excellent Espresso for our Cafe Bon Bon, an excellent Guatemalan HueHue for our Iced Coffee (12 hr. brew), an excellent Decaf Costa Rican for our Half-caf blend, and an excellent Ethiopian for French Press
2) About 15 different savory foods, salads, grilled sandwiches and bagels, and about 15 different sweets
3) Unique non caffeinated Red Espresso drinks made with Rooibos, and ten (10) different types of Teas, including French Pressed Mate and Kid?s size Ice Tea
4) Our default milk is 2%, but we also have Whole, Skim, ? & ? , Soy, Rice and Almond
5) Authentic Hot Chocolate and Mochas done with actual chocolate chips melt in the steamed milk
6) Espresso Protein Shakes made with Whey or Soy protein (a light meal conveniently blended with Coffee - 750 calories & 42 gr. of protein) and Fruit Smoothies
7) iPod powered music from all walks of life. Our diverse Staff (married, singles, UT/ACC/St. Eds students, Anglo, Hispanic) brings their iPods and push through our stereo almost anything that is out there
8) Nine-foot glass walls on two sides of the Bean, providing ample natural light for our Art and also letting Fair Beaners window-watch South Austin passers by
9) Convenience for our visitors, with Self-serve brew Coffee, Wireless Internet, a Bagel Toaster, Metal pans to heat up Banana Nut breads in our Toaster Oven, Courtesy dog leashes and hooks outside by the glass wall, Outdoor stools, Self-serve Coffee grounds for visitors to take home, a Public Input page in our web-site, and a Cute mirror in the girl?s bathroom
10) We?re working on #10

Fair bean falls short of potential

I was really excited to try this shop last week, it?s cute, close to home and not too crowded. I?m sorry to say that I was really disappointed. I?ve never written a complaint to a company before, so I?m not just being dramatic. Here?s what went wrong; I came in, there were 2 people behind the counter, a guy and a girl. The girl was too busy sending text messages to say hi and the guy just sort of stared blankly, as though my presence was really confusing. He finally took my order but i was disappointed to learn that your ""hot"" food items had all been sitting under the heat lamp for at least an hour (I was told that the ""freshest"" one had ""only"" been made an hour ago... huh?) Needless to say, it was soggy and not so tasty. Finally, I was excited to see that you use Tazo Chai, my favorite, I figured at least the Chai would be good... nope, not at all. The girl finally put her phone down to make it but she messed up the order (tea and milk, not so hard) when she made the drink a second time she put a splash of Chai into a tall glass of milk. I could barely taste the tea. The store is cute but the food is not fresh and the employees are apathetic. A new staff and menu revamp could do wonders for a store with lots of potential in a great location.

Great coffee and goodies at any time

Not only a fair trade place but also THE coffee place in South Austin, with excellent service and delicious Latin American salty goodies like ""pancitos de queso"" to try along with a ""cafe pintado"" or any of the teas. By the way, the Healthy Shake is tremendous! (it's a whole meal in itself). In addition to the wi-fi service, the couches add a very cozy atmosphere to the place perfect to take my customers in there...I'm a Custom Door business owner. Salud!

Total package of product, service, proprietor, atmosphere and business purpose makes for a very sat

My wife and I were in need of a cup of coffee while X-mas shopping. We were dragging and dropped into Fair Bean Coffee for the first time. We asked for a recommendation from the owner and this led to an interesting conversation about the brief history of the shop and its fair trade approach. The coffee and food were excellent, the feel of the place was very comfortable and relaxed and the back-story added to the over all positive experience.
My first impression was so strong that I'm planning on bringing my students ( I'm a teacher ) to Fair Bean to have some good coffee and arapes and learn about fair trade business practices and running a small business well.
