I have visited this place on different occasions and have been impressed every single time. From atmosphere to service to dish presentation that looks like it's straight out of a food magazine, this sushi spot is five-stars, start to finish. Not only are the portions huge, they are reasonably priced and the quality is simply the best, the freshest. Service is always top-notch, very prompt, friendly and accommodating which is one of the main reasons we keep going back. This place can get very busy Fri/Sat nights but well worth it. Make sure you try the Volcano roll and Rolls Royce rolls, these are way too delicious. Two thumbs up!!
No matter how crowded the parking lot is, there always seems to be one or two tables left for my family to visit, even on Friday nights -- yet I've never seen it anywhere close to empty. It's like a magic trick. The food is equally magical, with a huge selection of rolls and a charmingly apologetic note on the menu about pictures showing two "skewers" of each type even though each order is only one "skewer". This is my go-to sushi place, just noisy enough to be fun without being annoying, and with consistently good service and food. And for some reason, the miso soup always tastes better here than anywhere else...
A fancy place for some fancy sushi. This is the first restaurant I've seen which proudly displays its exact Zagat scores right when you walk in. (It scored a 26 out of 30 in case you're wondering). They've got some interesting lunch specials during the weekdays which includes one 8 piece sushi and a 8 piece California roll for $15.50. All lunch specials are served with miso soup, sunomono, and rice. My extremely hot date and I shared a cucumber wrapped spicy tuna roll and a lobster roll. Suffice to say, it was quite delicious. It wasn't mind blowing, but the sushi definitely satiated my taste palette.
2nd time here, one for regular dinner and one for my birthday. We sat 10 at our table and it was crowded. Our cook was young and very athletic. He was great with names and the kids. Food Fried Rice- B. It was better at Benihana's. Filet Mignon- A+. Tender, tender tender. Chicken- C- very dry. Shrimp- C- small, stringy. Veggies- B. they mash them all together unlike Benihana's. We like them separated. Service- A- It was very good and the waiters were very courteous and on top of things. Owner- He was great with the kids and gave the kids each a toy.
We had a great dinner here recently. Parking is a little tricky, since they are right on Ventura Blvd and they do not take reservations. We walked in expecting a wait and they were able to seat us immediately - yay! I ordered The Nozawa for $42 and it was a perfect amount of food, and the fish was incredibly fresh. I love the ease and simplicity of their sushi and I will definitely be back.
They have 3 choices for omakase that ranges from $85-$200. The most expensive one fells like more kaiseki than sushi. I tried the $85 omakase and ordered a few more from their specialty menu. Food is fantastic but nothing special. For walk-ins, the best time to come in for dinner is around 9pm.
Tetsu and his master chefs are professional, authentic and creative beyond imagination! Once you experience the food and service at Asanebo, you will be ruined for life. :) Golden eyed snapper and Spiny lobster sashimi are just two of the most exquisite fish you will ever taste
My husband took me here for my birthday and I love this place. The food here tasted so fresh! Especially loved the crab hand roll! If you decide to go here definitely make a reservation as this is a popular place in studio city.
i must say this is the best quality sushi in a wonderful atmosphere. lots of sake's to choose from. amburjack, toro, and an awesome kobe "sushi" too .. a little expensive but you get what you pay for. recommend to all.
hands down my favorite place for sushi. I could eat here everyday if there wasnt a risk of mercury poisoning. updating based on a few past experiences: the wait time can be ridic.
