CAUGHT BY CATCH! On 2/17/2012, A friend and I went to Catch because of a Groupon coupon. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly host, Todd, who showed us both rooms and said we could pick where we wanted to sit. We came at 6:00 PM. We decided on the smaller room, closer to the street, and sat next to the fireplace and Todd gave us pillows to sit on since the chairs were wood. We then gave the Groupon information to our waiter and Ron, the manager, came to assist us, since my friend had not hit the link. Ron brought in an I Pad and assisted us in retrieving the code so that we could use our coupon. He was so sweet. We then ate Point Reyes oysters on the half shell that were extremely tasty with a Brut champayne which was exquisite .The dish was Fetuccine and Lobster which was magnificent. We did not have desert, because we were full, yet had some wonderful coffee. There was a piano playing over head and Alberto, our waiter, was very friendly and helpful. The ambience was beautiful. We will definitely go there again! If you want a beautiful evening, try Catch. We were caught!

From Business: Since 1970 when Lorenzo Petroni and Bruno Orsi founded San Francisco's 1 Italian restaurant renowned for its authentic Tuscan cuisine, NORTH BEACH RESTAURANT has …
I was there was for my bday last November. So that is how much I liked the place, I wanted to have my bday dinner there. So we now were a group of 10 and were served by the same waiter, which I still loved. He had this coolness about him. In our party were two children under the age of 8. The menu wasn't too accommodating to them so we had to make something up for them. But that was no biggie. The setting was still nice. we were able to sit by the window to enjoy the view and we were LOUD. If you look at this place, you would think that you cant be loud, but you can. it wasn't busy, so we acted as if we owned the place. they didn't mind. Its an Italian/Seafood place. we know the Italians get very vocal while they eat. So any who, the prices are a tad steep for those that do not like to spend over $30 a meal. this does include your entree and a specialty drink. I highly recommend if you are an out of towner or opting for a nice date
Since 1970's, when first seated at this restaurant, coming from New England and East Coast fishing villages, this is the only place we consider a "must". We have stayed in town at hotels, bed and breakfast inns, wherever, but always make Scoma's our special dining. A visit to Fisherman's Wharf and this restaurant will leave you with lifetime memories and dreams of a return. Sometimes it is lunch hour, for a leisurely cioppino treat, best ever, served with sour dough bread, and more seafood than one can hope for! My husband's family lived in the Bay area for years, and we were directed to this spot, look for it down at the pier as signs are small. This restaurant caters to return visitors, not on the tourist recommended sites, but locals rate it best. Hope you enjoy it. Now in North Carolina where we have some good seafood also, but this is the place to really feel like you are in San Francisco.
As a foodie, I wanted to try this concept restaurant involving locally produced ingredients and largely organic fare. It was good, ordinary but good. Think of giving your grandma an organic piece of beef and she makes a stew--but that she was just a mediocre cook. A breaded sole was dry and not particularly flavorful. Halibut was good, but could have been better. A beef stew that was part of special combo of steak and stew (they had a cooler name for it) was virtually inedible--just the kind grandma must have loved--cause it's just like hers tasted! There was a mediocre wine list of over-priced largely organic options. The wait staff was pleasant, and helpful, though obviously "in on the joke" that the food was relatively ordinary, but they'd pretend it was the prelude to the second coming.
Catch is a very good (not great--but very good) restaurant in an area that is a desert of not-so-hot places to eat. Mostly seafood, there are plenty of other delicious things to choose from if there is a non-fish eater in your group. We always sit in the front "patio" part of the space, which is protected from the elements and heated in inclement weather. The back part or "inside" the restaurant is too noisy for my taste Service is good. Drinks are good and sometimes the special drinks are really fun and creative. My experience here is that reservations are always honored without pause or surprises. Catch has become a go-to place that's dependable, fun and always pleases. It is especially fun when there is an event in the neighborhood - people watching at its best.
Many people rave about this place and I understand why. Seafood is cooked simply and served generously. My salad had warm croutons which is a nice touch. Service is always efficient and comes with a smile. But here's my beef - the place is VERY small and waits for a table can be long. Really long. And everyone waits outside on a bench in front of the restaurant on the sidewalk. That's fine on a nice night, not so great when the rain is falling. They also used to let you drink wine while waiting outside. Evidently that's against "regulations" and they can't do it anymore. So consider this - as good as the food is think twice on a busy night and be warned that it just may not be worth the time. Of course if they ever let you drink wine out there again the time will go faster!
Gigi's is a must restaurant to visit and experience....located on Green Street in North Beach, it's consistently quality seafood...fresh and fabulously prepared...either Picata-style, grilled, or fried....love the clam chowder and shrimp and crab salad! Very casual, but Gigi, the colorful proprietor, makes your usual wait in line a fun time for all...small, but great seafood ....I thoroughly encourage any and all of you who may read this review, to give Gigi's a try.....you will have a great time, and a wonderful meal...lunch or dinner!
We accidently went to this restaurant. We had reservations for the restaurant next door but when we walked into Gigi's we decided to stay. We LOVED the atmosphere and the food. Never got the name of the hostess (she is the sister-in-law of the owner) but she was fabulous! We sat at the counter and enjoyed the food (delicious) and our chats with the hostess and Elias, one of the cooks. We will tell everyone we know to go to Gigi's if they go to San Francisco.
What better evening can you have on Wednesday night - hump day! Great jazz, good food, attentive service and wonderful drinks. During the holiday try their pumpkin vodka special...yum, yum, yum! The Jazz are local musicians (Frank Jackson, Noel Jewkes, Shota Osabe, and the GREAT Jim Rothermel) and the music makes the atmosphere cozy and comfortable. Have been there so far three times and loved it every time...I'm trying the stand up comedy on Thursdays next!!!
Came in and sat down waiting for almost 10 minutes for a server (it's almost 2pm) then another 10 waiting for some tokens. Another server apologized and got them for us which was nice. Someone should inform the hostess though that seats right in front of the doorway path does not equal warmer seeting. In fact I am quite cold, seeing as the wind is blowing right in my face. I'm sure I heard her say okay after I asked for something warm.
