I've gone here several times and overall have had really good beers. The beer selection is amazing, some of the best in JAX. They have a good variety of beer. I love hops and they didn't let me down. Every time I have gone, there are lots of different beers with hops. Their dark brews are pretty good too. They offer flights here which is nice if you want to try a variety of beers before ordering a pint. I like the atmosphere, it's very casual. I've never had trouble finding seating. I'm sure they can get pretty busy and tables could be hard to come by. There is no food served here but there is always a food truck in their parking lot. They have a parking lot to park your car. There is a separate water area at the end of the bar so no one has to wait for water. The service needs improvement. That's why this place is not getting full stars. The bar tenders have ignored me when it wasn't busy a few times. I've sat at the bar waiting to be helped and they just walk by me like I don't exist. When I had my credit card in hand to pay, they've walked on by without notice. Then it becomes my JOB to wave them down. Great beer, lacks friendly and helpful service.
I've been here lots of times with friends when we want a good beer and whiskey selection and great bar food. If you want to come here on a weekend, make a reservation. This is a popular spot and you'll have to wait an hour for a table. They have a good variety of craft beers, lots of different whiskeys to choose from and you can even get a flight of whiskeys if you can't make up your mind. With all this alcohol that is offered, there have been a few times I may have had too many but the staff is always so friendly and helpful. Their customer service is great, they're knowledgeable on their menu and are accommodating when they can be. My favorite menu item is their shrimp and grits. I love their peach habanero sauce, it's spicy, so beware if you have a low tolerance for spicy foods. I don't like grits but their goat cheese grits are delicious. My husband loves their burgers. They are pretty delicious and unique. This is the place we go when we want a burger. I've also had their fries, gorgonzola chips and poutine. The fries and poutine were ok, I like my fries to have more potato and their fries are lacking in that department. The gorgonzola chips were surprisingly tasty.
This was the first brewery I went to when I moved into the suburbs of Jacksonville and I wish I would have gone to any of the other ones for my first time. All of bold city's beers were ok. There wasn't anything about any of the beers that stood out to me. The flavors are mild and the texture was light. I've tried their killer whale cream ale, manatee IPA, red ale, apricot wheat and their brown ale. If you haven't been here I would give it a try. Beer tastes are all an opinion and this brewery was not for me.There is ample room for large groups and the tap room is really nice. There is normally always a food truck around.
Bold City is a really nice place to visit if you like craft beer. The staff is friendly and usually remembers whether you have been there before. The beer is always good. Although you can't order food there, periodically they'll have BBQ catered.
