X-rays
Oral Cancer Screening
Your appointment will begin with a review of your medical and dental history to learn how to best care for you as a person. Your initial examination will include a full set of X-rays (if you need them), and a detailed, tooth-by-tooth examination during which we chart the health of your teeth, restorations, and gums. We also will perform a soft tissue examination that includes an oral cancer screening, and a detailed examination of the muscles and bones of your jaw joint (TMJ). Because a picture is worth a thousand words, we also use a special intraoral camera to take photographs of all your teeth, so you can see what we see, and to help explain any problems you may have. On occasion, we may also take digital pictures of your smile, and make models of your teeth to help us plan your case.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral Surgery
If you need to have teeth extracted before getting dentures, you are likely to experience some discomfort after the oral surgery. Take recommended over-the-counter and prescribed medication as directed. The discomfort should improve three to five days after the procedure. When you first get new dentures, minor irritation may occur as your mouth adjusts to the new appliance.
