I used Two Men and a Truck in April 2017 to move into a new home. The move went fine but when the workers were about to leave, we noticed our sofa was broken. There was a piece of wood bulging from the fabric. Clearly, the sofa had been dropped. We informed the workers and they stated someone would contact us.Later that day, we were visited by Trenton. He stated that he could repair the damage. He called another person to help him. During the repair, the broken wood inside the sofa was pushed so hard that it tore the sofa. The structure of the sofa had been repaired but the repair caused new damage. Trenton said they would get a quote on repairing the fabric and cut us a check for that amount.After that day, Trenton was nearly impossible to get in contact with. Our calls were never returned. We tried for a month and got no response from Trenton. I finally called and left him a voicemail to which he called back. He stated that the cost to repair the sofa was to high and that the owner was not going to repair the sofa. They did offer to "patch" the hole in the sofa. Trenton stated that to repair the sofa it would cost between $450 and $500. Trenton then told me that they could offer $125 to us for the damage.I called Trenton on 6/12/17 and left a message stating we do not accept his offer and would like an amount closer to the amount to repair the sofa. Of course, I have not heard back from him.
We highly recommend David Moving Company! From the beginning to the end of our move we experienced nothing but the best! We can't say enough great things about everyone involved, from Dianne to the driver to the actual movers loading and unloading. This was the best money we ever spent with this move! AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL! I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO MY WORST ENEMY! We were flooded out and had very little. A two bedroom house. One king sized bed, two cribs, we don't even own a COUCH! They loaded the truck so poorly they couldn't "fit" everything. THEN what they DID fit, they damaged or flat out broke. They also took it upon themselves to go walk to Jack in the Box ON OUR TIME SINCE THESE PEOPLE GET PAID HOURLY, AND GRAB A BURGER!! Are you KIDDING me??? Then they had the supreme audacity to ask their TIP to be paid in cash. If I had been there instead of my husband, they would have regretted asking for a tip at all! I will be contacting the Federal Trade Commission on this bunch, you better believe it. We basically paid to have them NOT move and BREAK what little we had left.
Courtney and Jennifer were diligent in their correspondence and timely in their appointments. The estimate was of fair value when compared with 4 other movers in the Baton Rouge area. What created the decision to select them was their rating with the Better Business Bureau as well as other research for reviews concerning David Moving Company.The packers demonstrated concern for our items, some of which were of great value. The movers were all gentlemen and very hard working. When they faced an obstacle on placing our goods inside our home in Fredericksburg, we all sat down to discuss the options. As a team, we worked through the issues of the steep turn and stairs. I hired Two Men and a Truck in December 2014 to move a large 2 story home about 45 miles away. There sales/estimator Cameron Jones said it could be done with one truck but three people for about $1710. ON day of move one truck and 3 guys (one new rookie and two seasoned movers) showed up. The driver said it should have been two trucks and 4 guys. They spent all day moving in the rain with one truck which had to make two trips (and we left the garage and attic stuff alone). After 12 hours the 3 guys were wiped out and showing signs of fatigue. The cost now rose to $2470. a 30% increase because of their estimation error. I bought the labors lunch and provide drinks all day. Unfortunately at the end of the day they also damaged my refrigerator and a dinning table. Overall considering it wasn't worse of moves and they did work hard. The big issue arises in fixing things they damaged. First I had to call them several days after the report was filed. I spoke to Scott and he said he would schedule the repair guy out. Kurt the repair guy attempted to fix the dinning table two different times, but still shows the crack line. Kurt then came back to attempt to pull a dent from the refrigerator dead center in the door. After no luck, Kurt said they would try to replace the door skin. They said they looked all over the world for the part, but now its June 2015 and they have not yet fixed or replaced the door, nor the unit. The refrigerator is french door with freezer chest at the bottom. Also has water dispenser on door. The mfg LG no longer makes the part and the manual fix to remove the dent didn't work. So they wanted to offer me $200 to call it even and I keep my damaged goods. The said they would look to replacing the unit with an older used unit worth $600 dollars and take my existing one away. So this leaves me without a refrigerator, have to go find on my own, in the used market, all with 600 bucks. I can't find a replacement refrigerator on the market for less then 2000,00. During all this time Scott the after service guy left the company and they put the field repair guy Kurt in charge. Kurt then becomes the negotiator, fixer-upper and parts guy all wrap up in one. I paid for sloppy work, because the guys were fatigued, it cost me more money to move and on top of that they offer an insult for the refrigerator fix. So today I'm sitting on the wrong end of the deal and the owner Joseph R South does not return calls or face the issues like a respectable owner should. I highly recommend you do your home work before hiring these guys.

Even if you're staying in the same state, you may still technically be planning a long-distance move - though the exact mileage varies by moving company, these are typically moves that are more than 50 to 100 miles long or across state or country lines. In fact, even if you're moving within the same state but you have to go through another state or country first, it's likely considered an interstate move, rather than a local one. That's because the movers are technically transferring items between state lines, which means they'll be responsible for having the correct licensing and insurance in place.
Long-distance moves are much more complicated to plan, typically requiring you to pay numerous extra expenses for everything from shipping items to renting storage space.
Are you making a big move and trying to figure out exactly how much you should plan to spend? Or are you on a tight budget and looking to hire a mover who can keep costs low? Either way, it's important to understand how exactly moving companies charge their customers.

Look for Reviews and Recommendations
When hiring movers, it's a good idea to both look at reviews online and ask your friends and family members for recommendations. Personal endorsements will go a long way toward helping you determine whether you can expect the company to do a quick and professional job.
Choose Top Candidates
As you're vetting candidates through reviews and recommendations, narrow your selection to three or four top options. Make sure the companies offer the type of move you're looking for, whether it's interstate or local. These three or four companies are who you'll contact for estimates.

During the hiring process, you want to make sure of three things: First, that the moving company is reputable and has the proper licensing and insurance. Second, that the movers are dependable, professional and committed to doing the job correctly. Finally, that the estimate provided is binding and that you're aware of any potential excess costs. With these factors in mind, here are some of the most important questions to ask a moving company:

Call the FMCSA
For long-distance or interstate moves, you can easily check that companies have the proper licensing and insurance, which is a clear indication that they're legitimate. All interstate moving companies must be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, so call 888-368-7238 to confirm the licenses, insurance and credentials of the movers you're considering. The FMCSA can also tell you if any complaints have been filed against a particular moving company.
Check with the American Moving and Storage Association
For both local and long-distance moving companies, AMSA is another good place to check out a company's legitimacy. Moving companies aren't required to be an AMSA member, but the ones that are have committed to the association's rules and regulations, which protect both the companies and the consumers hiring them. If a company isn't an AMSA member, that doesn't mean it isn't reputable, but an AMSA membership is a clear indication of legitimacy.

Choose a Moving Company That Plans Ahead
Moving companies can better keep your belongings safe when the movers plan ahead. What does this mean? Many companies take extra time to measure doorways, halls and stairways to find the safest route in and out of your home. They should also provide furniture blankets, covers and moving pads to keep both your home and your belongings free of scratches or other damage.
Keep the Moving Area Safe
There are some things you can control on moving day and some things you simply can't, such as the weather. If you're moving on a snowy, icy or rainy day, keeping all of your paths, stairways and walkways clear and dry is crucial. This can help protect both the movers and the large items they're carrying to and from the truck.
The subject of tipping is relatively unclear when it comes to movers. However, there is a general rule of thumb that most people in the industry agree on: Tip your movers if they've done a good job and you think a tip is warranted.
Generally, a 5 percent tip is considered appropriate, though some people recommend paying $20 per day, per mover for basic, local moves. However, almost everyone agrees you should first do a quick walk-through of your home to check for any damage to your furniture or belongings and to make sure everything is where you'd like it to be.
If you do decide to give a tip, divide it evenly and give money to each individual, rather than giving the entire sum to the head mover and expecting it to be doled out equally. One type of tip to avoid: alcohol. It's usually illegal for movers to have bottles of alcohol in the truck or van, so tipping a bottle of wine or liquor could get them into trouble.
