I have been a client of Tails of Success for almost five years now. Sherri is the owner and has been so approachable and knowledgeable throughout the whole process of dog training, doggy day care, agility and various other training classes. Cameo is the manager and she is a true asset to the business, and answers any questions I may have. I fully trust and endorse this business and will recommend them to my friends, and family, and even strangers! The facilities are clean, expansive and perfect for any dog. They specialize in positive reinforcement methods, and are educational and beneficial.

Our dog is 4 now and has been going to Tails of Success since 6 months old. The staff is very good with explaining the training and I like that there is always more than one trainer on hand.

Love Tails!!!!

Love this facility and everyone who works there. They have a very solid understanding of behavior and use a humane, progressive approach to facilitate learning. I particularly love agility. My Tuck has become so much more confident, and it's wonderful to see such a transformation occur from having fun. I'm so grateful to have kind and knowledgeable trainers with a focus on behavior in the area that I feel so comfortable with.

I would highly recommend TOS. Sherri is very knowledgable & patient. My dog is noticeably more comfortable around strangers since taking Fearful Fido class. It was very helpful for my dog and I learned a lot as well.

I have been through many classes at ToS as a student and have nothing but wonderful things to say about the company and their methods of training. I brought one of our extremely fearful dogs through the Fearful Fido class. It was one of the most valuable experiences I have ever had with one of my dogs. It helped me learn appropriate ways to relate to the emotions my dog was feeling and how to help change those emotions so that they were not controlling him. At the start of the class, volunteers who helped these dogs had to stand a few feet away from my dog to avoid him acting out. By the last class he was actually approaching and touching strangers. I have since moved out of Rochester and am desperately searching for a training facility to continue working with.

The staff at ToS have very specific ways of working with and relating to dogs. What many people do not understand is how to take these skills and apply them at home. ToS is one of the few training facilities in Rochester that I would ever recommend to anyone.

Not only do they know what they are doing, but they do it in a peaceful and positive manner. They are also involved with helping local rescue dogs, offering free services to help these dogs get adopted.

If you are looking for a trainer, I would encourage you to go to one of their classes (sans your dog) and just observe. If you see happy people AND happy dogs, you know that the trainers are doing their jobs correctly. And that is exactly what you will see!

I'm a client who came to Tails of Success after my dog had bitten an individual and his aggression seemed to worsen after working with a trainer who insisted we used force and a prong collar. My dog had become very unsafe and had even air snapped at me when I would try to work with him. When I scheduled my private session at my home, the owner, Sherri Romig was considerate enough to call me to let me know she was at the door, rather than knocking, which sets my dog off. The initial consultation was 90 minutes and VERY detailed. Sherri was professional, informative, and very compassionate and to my surprise I was able to have my dog in the living room during the consultation (he usually has to be crated when new guests came over for safety)- she's very good with aggressive dogs and through her education understands how not to make them uncomfortable through her own body language.

After two private sessions we had my dog in a place where he was ready to work on his skills in a class setting. Not only did she have a class recommendation but also additional training accessories (the thundershirt) and supplements (lactium and rescue remedy) that would be able to help reduce my dog's fear and anxiety so that we could make progress in class. The class we enrolled into was a specialty class called "Fearful Fido" where the class is only for dogs with fear issues. The class was beyond informative. We weren't just training my dog to cope with what makes him nervous but Sherri and the other trainers actually explained the science behind what my dog experiences when he becomes scared or anxious and why he reacts the way that he does. The other trainers who helped with the class were wonderful and very helpful in ensuring my dog and I were successful and had additional websites, youtube videos, and books I could read to further understand the behavioral issues my dog was experiencing. The class was two months long and after successfully completing the class and continued practice my dog happily coexists with people these days, friend and stranger alike.

I really appreciated how the trainers, including Sherri continue their education in dog training so that their information and education is always current and up to date. I genuinely believe that if I had not found my way to Tails of Success that my dog would have been euthanized due to biting someone or another dog. I am forever grateful for the knowledge and compassion these trainers possess in order to do their jobs effectively without the use of fear or pain.

Overall

Unimpressed with this facility and especially the owner - the skills learned here could be read from a book, the trainers do not seem to have any additional skills with dogs than an average dog owner. There are plenty of other trainers in the area and we went to one that taught us more in one session than in 3 month at Tails for Success!! I DO NOT recommend Tails for Success.

This training facility may be fine for people that want to socialize their dogs, meet other people, and learn cute tricks, but they are not appropriate for dogs with real problems such as separation anxiety or aggression.

Having gone to one local board...

Having gone to one local boarder and trainer where I walked away with very mixed feelings about their approach and care, I was extremely relieved to find Tails of Success. The approach to handling the dogs is more "evolved" than traditional practices, there is kindness and care and naturally, the dogs respond well, become calm and understand what they are being taught. I have also learned from Tails of Success about a quality, raw and natural diet for my two Shih Tzus which I inherently feel will extended their life and their health! I was loaded with misconceptions until I attended Sherri's seminars! Also, if you want to go on vacation worry free, board your pups with TOS - thay are absolutely trained and equipped to handle any situation, the dogs are always receiving personal attention and I can tell they have a blast :)

Tails of Success turned our 9 ...

Tails of Success turned our 9 month old rescue poodle-mix from a good find into a genuine treasure. . They did this through their obedience training program using their Level Class system on a flexible schedule that allowed us to move him along at his own pace to the point where we were satisfied with his proficiency level - a sensible and economical approach not found at other training programs. We recommend Tails of Success to friends with dogs every chance we get.

Tails of Success is an awesome...

Tails of Success is an awesome place to train your dog. I was introduced to the company when I adopted a puppy from Pittyloverescue. They require a training class within a month of adopting and gave a discount for TOS. I have taken several other obedience training classes with a previous dog & loved how the classes at Tails of Success are different. There is only positive training techniques used. No shock or prong collars, no yanking, pulling, yelling, & definitely no playing I'm the "alpha" with your dog. You simply use positive reinforcement of behaviors you like. My dogs have done very well with this type of training. Sherri & Darcy are great! They always are willing to offer advice & you can tell they are passionate about what they do, as well as knowledgeable. I would recommend them & have several times.

Tails is one of very few place...

Tails is one of very few places in the Rochester area where the trainers will look at the whole picture - the whole dog, the whole human/s, the whole relationship - and help find the best solution for all parties. The methods used are gentle, effective and FUN (isn't that how training should be?!). It's obvious how much the dogs love going to classes at Tails, they usually can't wait to get in the door! The trainers at Tails are easy to talk to and will gladly do everything they can to answer any questions you may have. I highly recommend checking out Tails of Success if you're looking into training with your dog!

Thank God for Tails of Success...

Thank God for Tails of Success. I had no idea what to do with our dog after it all of a sudden was displaying weird behaviors. So, never having been in this situation before, I got online and looked for a trainer.

The first person who came to my home sold me a 100.00 collar that administered a shock, on top of the money he charged for the lesson, and told me whenever the bad behavior occurred I could push this little button and it would make him stop.

Well it seemed to work at first, but then he bit me. I decided I wasn't exactly comfortable and had heard of another way that involved treats instead of a shocking collar.

I discovered Tails of Success, and after talking to Sherri on the phone and explaining what had happened, we set an appointment for her to come over to my house and evaluate.

Sherri taught me that by instead of correcting bad behavior with a punishment, we could achieve better results by rewarding good behavior. I was a little nervous at first but was amazed at how well Rover responded.

We have a wonderful relationship now, and I would recommend Tails of Success to anyone who genuinely wants to help their dog in a way that is fun and effective, and not punishment based.

We have used Tails of Success ...

We have used Tails of Success for the Levels training for some time now and are extremely pleased with the knowledge and caring with which Sherri and Darcy both conduct themselves. Levels training provides an opportunity for both myself and my dog to learn while continuing with much needed socialization for my baby! We would recommend Tails of Success to anyone who needed a trainer or some obedience classes for their pooch! Great place! :)

As for the one star review, I guess you can't make everyone happy.

Our rescue is partnered with T...

Our rescue is partnered with Tails of Success for the training of our bullies. Not only do we find the trainers at TOS extremely patient and knowledgeable but they are also very savvy concerning dog behavior. Their methods aren't harmful unlike many other "well known" trainers in this area and they actually take the time to determine the root of a problem versus beating it out of the dog like some other trainers. Their approach to dog training and behavioral work is quite refreshing given the fact that most trainers in the Rochester area are still mired in outdated and scientifically proven to be wrong dominance theory techniques.

We have been extremely happy with Tails of Success! We would and frequently do recommend them to many people who can use some help with their canine companions.

Additionally there is nothing RIDICULOUS (correct spelling for those who don't bother to use spell check) about using holistic methods and the trainers at TOS are also very knowledgeable in this area. Sounds like the one star review wanted a quick fix to their problem versus doing any real work with their dog. .For their sake, I hope other problems don't manifest as a result of their ignorant laziness
