Centroamericana

I went to centroamericana last night with two friends. Friend 1 didn't like the food the last time she had gone there, so we ordered a platter that had a little bit of everything on it so that she would be able to decide what to order. At the same time, I wasn't feeling well, so the platter ended up being a good idea because it was so large. After the waiter took our order, we overheard the owner of the restaurant saying, "wow, one plate for 3 people? I would be so embarrassed." After hearing this rude comment, we decided not to order anything else even though my friends were still hungry. We tipped the waiter because he had been very nice to us, and then proceeded to ask for the owner to voice our concerns. Friend 1 stated very politely that she had come to centroamericana only because I had insisted, because she didn't like the food last time but was willing to try it out again;however, because of his rude and unnecessary comment, would definitely not be coming back. The owner stated that we should not be concerned, because he was talking to the waiter, not us. Friend 2 stated that he should be ashamed of his comment, especially when he does not know us nor the reason behind ordering only one plate, and also because we could hear his comment regardless if he meant us to or not.

The owner began to yell at us, "well maybe I did want you to hear. YOU should be the ones ashamed! You come into MY restaurant with my GREAT service! I gave you all napkins and you only order one plate? You should have eaten at home!" Significantly surprised by his response and complete lack for an apology, Friend 2 raised her voice and stated that we would not be returning and that he should be ashamed to be the owner of a restaurant and treat people the way that he did. He then came around the counter, shooing us out of the door yelling "come mierd* estupida, no regresen!!!" Considering that my 2 friends are Latin American and he disrespected us like this, especially when there are many other Latin American restaurants that we could have gone to, he should re-evaluate the way he runs his business. A simple apology would have sufficed, especially if he cherished his reputation. Definitely will not ever be returning!!!
