Emergency Care
If you suspect you have an eye infection or if you get something in your eye you should contact us right away. It is best to visit Coventry Eye Care Associates or Chariho Eye Care Associates rather than go to an urgent care center because we will have the specific tools and knowledge to best assess your eyes! If you get a foreign object in your eye it is especially important to call our office immediately. Objects are much easier to remove and will require less healing time if they are removed promptly.

Glaucoma
Glaucoma is known as the “silent thief of vision” because it initially has no symptoms! Only when glaucoma is in its advanced stages would you notice any vision loss. The best way to detect glaucoma is during yearly eye exams with your eye doctor.
Macular Degeneration
The earliest stages of macular degeneration can have very mild symptoms, like a slight decrease in the quality of your vision. As macular degeneration progresses, the decrease in vision becomes more significant and you may notice a distortion of straight lines. That is, doorways and tables look curved or warped instead of straight.
Laser Eye Surgery
These procedures surgically alter the cornea, which may lead to Dry Eye symptoms for up to several months potentially.
Cataracts
If you have a change in your perception in color or if your Optometrist finds a change in your color vision upon testing, this may be an indicator of eye disease. Changes in color vision often accompany cataracts, macular degeneration and optic nerve disease.
Cataract Surgery
Dr. Tom, Dr. Rick’s brother, came to the practice in 1990 bringing his friendly, warm and caring “chairside manner”. His special interests include: dry eye disease treatment, children’s vision care, comprehensive eye health and vision examinations, therapeutic treatment of anterior segment disease, contact lens services, pre and post-operative co-management of refractive and cataract surgery.
Eye Exam
As we grow older the importance of regular eye care becomes more critical. Preventative care is the key to a lifetime of clear vision. People over 65 years of age should seek an eye exam yearly… even if their vision seems good with their current glasses! The increased importance of yearly comprehensive eye exams as we age is due to the increased incidence of ocular disease like those listed below.
