I've been visiting the spaghetti shop for many years now. I used to love it, good service and garlic bread to die for. While the garlic bread is still amazing, the rest of the food has severely taken a downward soggy turn. Service? I don't even think that's a priority there anymore. Today I witnessed a man reiterate multiple times what he wanted. Once he was rang up and done paying, he looked at his receipt only to realize she had over charged him for what he wanted & of course wanted this corrected. She turned her back on the man and ignored him for 4 and a half minutes. That's right, I whipped out my handy timer. The entire time this man was trying to get her attention. You could tell she definitely knew he was doing it, she just didn't care. Once she finally turned around to acknowledge the man's presence, she yelled at someone who was working in the kitchen, "can you take care of this friken man please?!" And walked away. My family and I left without even ordering. I have never seen a more rude person who was working for the public. We will NEVER be going back. The owners need to interven, and they need to do it soon before they go out of business. The man who worked the kitchen was fabulous, was not rude at all and took care of the man. Tremendous props to him for how he handled the situation! However, being at the front of house is not his job and being up there took away from anyone making food, which set them even further behind than they already were. This is actually the third extremely rude experience I've had. I always give three strikes before a review, and they are OUT. I will be making my own fabulous garlic bread from now on, and will be sure to spread the word of just how rude these employees are.
Saputos is old school, supper club type Italian food. I have been coming here for decades and the food, while not fancy, is consistently great. The service is top notch with several waitresses that have worked there for years. I like the baked Rigatoni with meatballs. Also, their Saputos antipasto plate is a great start to a meal. I enjoy the Italian dishes, but what really sets the place apart are their steaks. I almost always now get an Italian breaded filet mignon. The beef is locally butchered, never frozen and superbly cooked. Whatever size the cut is listed at, it's always a couple ounces larger. It's not inexpensive for Springfield, but it's about 2/3 the price of a top Chicago steakhouse. I have rarely had a better steak. Enjoy!
I came here for my "go-to" carb loading meal the night before my half marathon. This unassumingly hidden place has a serious old school Italian theme once you go in! I'm not exaggerating when I say that the inside decor truly exemplifies Italian restaurants. I was greeted by a friendly staff and while I ate by myself this meal (which I usually hate) the servers were super friendly and checked on me frequently. I ordered the individual pizza and was pretty surprised just how fast it came out! It was darn good and I honestly consider myself a pizza snob. I finished most of it though I could have easily polished it off. I'd definitely come back for the good prices, friendly staff, and good tasting foods!
My son and i were in Springfield for a short trip this week to go the Lincoln Museum. We asked for advice on where to eat dinner and were told from two very nice people to go to Saputo's for authentic Italian and friendly atmosphere. We are pleased to say we found both at your restaurant! Shirley was such a sweet and attentive server - i've been in the restaurant business for 30 years and she was wonderful!! So caring, genuine and efficient. The salad dressing was delish, the pizza sooo good, the wine, the canoli all made for an evening we will always remember. Keep up the good work! You really are making memories!! Thank You!
We've dined at Suputo's five times in the last several years and have not been disappointed. The Italian breaded filet mignon is out of this world! A big steak, juicy and tender, covered with a crusted Italian breading. I've also had several of the pasta dishes and they have always been fresh, homemade and good. The salad is a perfect compliment to the steak. We didn't have room for a potato since the steak was so large. Suputo's has been in business since 1948 and with the fine dining they continue to offer, know it will be around for a very long time.
I was on business in Springfield and staying at the Doubletree across the street from the restaurant. It was recommended by the hotel as a great locally owned Italian restaurant and I wasn't disappointed. I had the Chicken Parm, which was a generous serving and really good. The atmosphere has a vintage 70's look, which I found appealing. My meal with a couple glasses of wine was around $35. I sat at the bar and the lady bartender was great. I would highly recommend trying this place!
We were on our way back from Chicago and found Saputo's on Yelp and decided to try. We didn't have a reservation arrived at 5:40 on a Friday evening. They were booked but gave us their last open table, made us feel like family and the food was fantastic. The house dressing is amazing, bread was awesome and our dishes chicken fettuccine and chicken Parmesan were the best. Would recommend to everyone and we will be sure and stop in again if we are in Springfield IL.
We had a group of friends together and visited Saputo's- my husband and I dine there quite ferquently so all of the group had dinner there and my friends really enjoyed the dinner. They had baked lasagna, a few had breaded filet. My favorite is the Halibut. Everyone that works there are so enjoyable to visit, they make you feel right at home. The food is awesome that's why we keep going to our favorite Italian restaurant! Definitely a 5 star rating!
My family gives Saputo's a "5" star rating. We were in town from Chicago for the Lincoln exhibits, and wanted a locally named restaurant not a chain. Six of us walked in without a reservation and only had a short wait. Our server was helpful in selecting wine from the extensive wine list. And though we came in for the pizza and pasta, we had the best filets we have ever had. Next time we are in Springfield, we will be back for sure.
My family and I dined at Saputo's. It reminded me of how restuarants looked when I was a kid... We chose it becuase it was close to our hotel, but you should choose it becuase it is GOOD. The restaurant features homemade ravioli and lasagne noodles. Everyone in our group enjoyed their meal. We began with a thin-crust pizza that was fantastic. Our entrees included baked lasagne, eggplant parm and tortellini. No one left hungry!
