1311 is the best bar in Pittsburgh. This, of course, is just an opinion of mine. I personally think good drinks and a fun atmosphere is the way to go when it comes to a bar. You absolutely cannot come in here and leave without making friends, or at very least having an amazing conversation. People watching is fun here, the cheap (strong) drinks bring in quite a interesting crowd. The music is good, it's diverse, so you don't get sick of hearing the same stuff over and over. They have a jukebox in the back if you care to take over DJing for a bit. They do have $5 pizzas. For those of you who enjoy craft beers, this is surely the place to be, as they have over 100 different kinds of crafts, and new ones in all the time that they post on facebook.com/pages/1311/… . If you've never had a craft, just ask any of the staff and they will be happy to explain them to you, and find one you're sure to enjoy based on your palate. They also have 8 big screen HD TVs, and a projector, for you to enjoy all sports games possible. I'll admit, I am pretty biased. I'm one of their doormen, my name is Paul. On that note I'll add that I don't get paid for this, and I don't make any sort of commission. I just noticed that there are no up to date reviews on this place, so I thought I could leave some information. If you ever have any questions about anything, you are always welcome to ask me. I hope to see you at our bar soon, and I hope you leave some reviews for me to read! I'll leave a list of our specials below. $5 Captain & Coke pitchers. or (depending on the day of the week) $5 Smirnoff Vodka pictures. Any flavor with any mixer you could imagine. There are 1,000's of possibilities. Some of the common favorites are Coke & Vanilla (vanilla coke), Blue Pitches are blueberry vodka with sprite and Blue Curaçao to add some color, and watermelon or strawberry vodka with cranberry juice. $3 Fireballs or MiniBeers. $4 Grape or Cherry Bombs. $5 Pints of homemade Sangria. (Tastes amazing.) $2.50 Coors Lite aluminum pints. They also have a few beer specials, but those change by the day, stop on by to see all of those.
The Aspinwall Grille is a great place to eat. It has the comfortable atmosphere of a neighborhood bar/restaurant, especially now that the extra seating space next door has been closed. (I did not like the now dismissed expansion, so was happy to see the Grille back to its original footprint.) The food is reliably yummy, with favorite dishes including the chicken quesadilla, buffalo chicken dip, cheesesteak, the rubens, and the open face steak sandwich -- all delicious. And the daily specials really are specal. The Garden Grille (portabella) sandwich was changed in the last year or so, and is not near as good as it used to be. The chicken sandwiches are good, but would be better if they weren't so "bready" -- either larger or pounded out pieces of chicken, or smaller bread (perhaps foccacia rather than the bun). I do not recommend salads at the Grille; while they are fresh, the combination of ingredients is less than creative and on the slim side. Also, there is a good beer selection at the Aspinwall Grille. I have many times tried something new available on tap, with good results. The service, however, could be better. The Aspinwall Grille is very reliable for providing a good meal in a cozy atmosphere. Go there, as long as you're not in a rush.
I have attended two large events here at the Library and both of them went off without a hitch. I was a date to a fraternity function. The bar was a cash bar and the drinks were priced fairly with a friendly bartender working. The event was catered and we had plenty of delicious finger food to go around...highly reccommend the dark-green bright-red... I also went to a rehearsal dinner here in which we were allowed to choose the entree. Each of us got a different one and not one of us was disappointed. Every plate was delicious. Working with the event planner was a breeze and she was so friendly and helpful. At one point there were guests walking through our party to the patio. We didn't pay to have the whole upstairs and the patio but we also didn't want to have strangers walking through the party. The staff was so accomadating that they had their own customers walk up the service stairs to the patio and it made the whole night even better. I highly reccommend this place, either for a large event or just for a great dinner. The room rental was fairly priced and the food was a bargain for how tasty it was. I'll be going back!
The 941 saloon and Tilden after hours club are by far the best places to party in Pittsburgh. My husband and I recently moved to downtown Pittsburgh from LA, and as a straight woman, I can assure you that there's no place more happening than here. Unlike most cheesy joints in pittsburgh, the saloon/tilden gets a great mixed crowd (straight, gay, etc)...they also have an awesome DJ, fabulous drink specials, and a very upbeat atmosphere. Other "nightclubs" in this city pale in comparison. The 941 saloon is the perfect spot to grab a cocktail after work, and if you're in the mood to party all night it's a one-stop-shop for a great time! The staff is super cool and welcoming and the owner is HOTTTTT!!! this place is the real deal, I HIGHLY recommend it!
The experiences at LAUGHINGBUDDHABAR is so wonderful. The atmosphere is peaceful and beautiful. The foods and services are amazing. The staffs are super friendly and so attentive. There's a very BIG LAUGHING BUDDHA and a very LONG DRAGON in the dining room...so beautiful & Amazing! My family & friends have a wonderful time there & we'll be definitely be back again. I am highly recommend you to bring your families & friends to visit this amazing place to eat.
This place is great! I live fairly close and this is my happy hour spot, go to spot to take the kids when I don't feel like cooking, and the real reason i come back all the time is that the bartenders and staff are so friendly! In the past year the food has gotten 100% better with an authentic chef taking over the kitchen. Definately recommend!
This is one of my favorite bars to go to. The staff is nice, the bartenders hop on the bar, dance, give out free shots and t-shirts. Prices are pretty cheap, especially for downtown. And they always seem to have some event or activity or contest going on and the place is clean, not like some of the dumps in downtown.
The few times that I have been there I had great service and the food was good. The long Island Iced Teas are delicious! I would recommend this place if you want to relax and enjoy good bar food. The deck on the back is a nice place to escape if you don't smoke, otherwise it's a little smoky inside at the bar.
1311 ON CARSON STREET ON THE SOUTH SIDE HAS ONE OF THE LARGEST SELECTIONS OF CRAFT, DOMESTIC AND IMPORT BEER THAT I HAVE SEEN ANYWHERE. THE PLACE IS ALWAYS CLEAN AND THE SERVICE IS FANTASTIC. THE BARTENDERS ARE SO FRIENDLY AND KNOWLEDGABLE ABOUT DRINKS AND THE PLACE HAS EIGHT FLAT SCREEN TV'S. GREAT PLACE.
Wonderful atmosphere - great local hotspot! Food and drinks are very reasonable, and extremely tasty! Add great service, friendly bartenders, and a kitchen staff that will allow substitutions and 'customizing' the menu and this place is one of my favorites! A must stop every time I'm in the city!
