Located in Omaha, Nebraska, the Girl Scouts - Great Plains Council serves more than 52,000 girls, young women and their families. The organization s Girl Scouts values-based and informal educational program serves girls between the ages of 5 and 17. Its members include girls and young women throughout Douglas, Sarpy and Cass counties in Nebraska and Carter Lake, Iowa. The Girl Scouts - Great Plains Council is a part of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, which is a youth organization for girls in the United States and American girls living abroad. Founded in 1912, the parent organization is based on the scouting principles developed by Robert Baden-Powell.
