Gingivectomy and Gingivoplasty
A gingivectomy removes the diseased gum tissue that has pulled away from the teeth, causing deep pockets to form. The remaining gum tissue is then repositioned back around the tooth roots to reduce the pocket depths and keep plaque, tartar, and bacteria from accumulating.
Periodontal Surgery
I recently had periodontal surgery at Dr. Johnson's office and was totally satisfied with the office and the staff. Dr. Johnson was kind and gentle, making the surgery a pleasant experience. I never felt any pain, even during the recovery process. His staff was professional, friendly and caring. I would highly recommend this office.
Deep Cleaning
Scaling and root planing is the first line of defense against gum disease. This “deep cleaning” removes plaque and tartar from above and below the gumline, then smooths the tooth surfaces (and sometimes bone) to help healthy gum tissue reattach and to help keep bacteria from colonizing.

A visit to the Periodontist should not be scary for anyone. People think the worst and since I was a patient of Dr. Johnson this year, I want everyone to know that going to a periodontist is not all that bad!. I had sedation gum surgery and felt NO pain. There were several follow up appointments and I have to say that from the first visit to the last, I felt like I was well taken care of. The staff is wonderful. The Periodontist was fantastic. I just can't believe that I had dental gum surgery and it never hurt. So, don't delay, call Dr Johnson and meet him and his staff. They will take good care of you!
Maxillofacial Surgery
Dr. Darby has extensive training and special interest in all aspects of dental implant therapy, to include interactive CT diagnosis & treatment planning, computer guided surgery, soft and hard tissue surgical management of deficient ridges, and in the restoration of dental implants. He initiated his post graduate implant training at Northwestern University Dental School in 1995. Additionally, he completed post graduate curriculums at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Baylor College of Dentistry, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Montefiore and at the Nobel Biocare, Pikos, and Misch Implant Institutes.
Osseous Surgery
Antibiotic treatment, completed along with scaling and root planing or osseous surgery, involves applying a topical gel into the pockets around the teeth to keep bacteria from returning. Antibiotic treatment can also be oral medication.

Bone Grafting
