I've been to Masusu Kinks three times now. I recently stopped going to them because the prices are just crazy, I'm tired of getting an attitude from Nicole everytime I go, and I found another African shop that does a better job. Although the finished product (at Masusu Kinks) is nice, I found that often the braids weren't very tight and being that I have ridiculously soft hair, the braid would often just slip out not too long after I got them done. I initially went to Masusu Kinks because I heard that they ran a very professional African hair braiding salon (you don't find that often). Hah, yeah right. Nicole was on the phone while she was braiding my hair and talking softly and saying "what was your dream about." I mean really though, because you're not near my ear whispering. I was so done at that point. Even though she's done my hair several times, she's still rude every time. I understand being irritated and it being early, but my goodness, people are paying a lot of money for this service and our money is what's keeping the business going, so it won't hurt to smile and say hello and actually mean it; her attitude just sucks. Also, it seems like anybody who can somewhat braid can work their. Sigh, now I go to Fatou's. They are not professional at all, but one thing they can do is braid. They are very nice, they say thank you, they put on movies. They do take frequent breaks, but at least they offer to order you food when they do (you have to pay of course). Oh and there's bugs, but you can look past that. At Masusu Kinks I paid 294 for large 24inch box braids (which I'm not complaining that is a lot of work), but I paid 220 for the samething and better quality at Fatou's (save money). All and all, Ms. Kinks is great with understanding what type of style you want, but she's not very good with people from what I've seen. Her shops are pretty nice for the most part, but definitely not professional, her prices are outrages sometimes for mediocre work. I would rather pay less, sit in a dirty salon that is employed by nice people who do an exceptional job, than more more, sit in a nice trendy salon with a rude unappreciative owner, and stylists that do okay work.

I was quite impressed. I know MANY people who swear by this salon. I brought my 13 yo daughter to get her hair cut, colored and styled. We got Lisa because we were told she can do an edgy type of cut that my daughter would prefer. The cut was STUNNINGLY awesome and it has lasted over 4 months. My daughter choose hair color with some low lights and the look was so beautiful. I am in the process of making an appointment for both of us. To see a hair cut look so good for so long was incredibly impressive to me. The place is a little old and reminds me of someone's house, but it is quaint with nooks and areas that are fun for the eyes. Many of my daughter's friends go there and they are all happy with their cuts and color....I have only heard wonderful things about them!
As far as I'm concerned, every time that I have visited Lorraine's Spa Salon, my customer service and appointments have been the best I've ever received. I've received every treatment that they have available, and I haven't a single complaint. All of the technicians are very well trained and friendly. I've never been burnt or scarred with any of my waxing, and I've never been unhappy with any of my hair treatments. And to read the comments provided by various people on this site, it's come to my attention that people just need to realize that everyone might have a bad day, and to get over themselves. You went there for one service. Stop bashing the whole business. I'd recommend ANYONE and EVERYONE to come here for a wonderful experience.
Laura has moved to Style By Design 591-0283 in Yorktown next to the Kiln Creek movie theater! Been coming here for nearly 5 years. They really listen to what it is you want . Laura can do anything with my hair that i want done. She's a a perfectionist and takes time with me to give me exactly what I want. She gave me a razor cut this time and I love it! I hardly ever have to wait when I come in for my appointed time. Just straight to the chair.

This salon is funny, wonderful and the ladies and men that work here are awesome. They do really good hair and they really appreciate their clients. They show their clients that they mean something. This salon is the best and they know what they are doing. My hairstylist Aaron is the greatest but so are the others at the salon.
