Very unhappy, braids are horrible after 1 month. Very expensive, very unprofessional. I needed my hair done for an event and my regular place was closed. I will WAIT next time.

Overall

I originally had my 10am appointment at this location, however when I arrived there, I was told that I had to go to the other location near Hampton. I was very furious, because this could have been avoided before my arrival. When I got to the other location everything was fine and dandy. The style I wanted was cornrows and a hair trim. The stylist that was giving me my haircut clearly didn't know what she was doing, because she had to ask the other lady if she had to cut this particular section. Meanwhile while she was cutting hair, she was talking on the phone. Once she was done with my butcher hair cut, she proceeded to start on my cornrows, halfway through my cornrows the stylist stop to do other people's hair. Finally when she was done, she came back to my hair and finally finished it. Overall I was disappointed with the whole experience...from me travelling an extra 20 mins to my butcher haircut I do not recommend Masusu Kinks. I regret not asking for a discount because I had to travel to the other shop to get this simple hairstyle done.

Overall

I've been to Masusu Kinks three times now. I recently stopped going to them because the prices are just crazy, I'm tired of getting an attitude from Nicole everytime I go, and I found another African shop that does a better job. Although the finished product (at Masusu Kinks) is nice, I found that often the braids weren't very tight and being that I have ridiculously soft hair, the braid would often just slip out not too long after I got them done. I initially went to Masusu Kinks because I heard that they ran a very professional African hair braiding salon (you don't find that often). Hah, yeah right. Nicole was on the phone while she was braiding my hair and talking softly and saying "what was your dream about." I mean really though, because you're not near my ear whispering. I was so done at that point. Even though she's done my hair several times, she's still rude every time. I understand being irritated and it being early, but my goodness, people are paying a lot of money for this service and our money is what's keeping the business going, so it won't hurt to smile and say hello and actually mean it; her attitude just sucks. Also, it seems like anybody who can somewhat braid can work their. Sigh, now I go to Fatou's. They are not professional at all, but one thing they can do is braid. They are very nice, they say thank you, they put on movies. They do take frequent breaks, but at least they offer to order you food when they do (you have to pay of course). Oh and there's bugs, but you can look past that. At Masusu Kinks I paid 294 for large 24inch box braids (which I'm not complaining that is a lot of work), but I paid 220 for the samething and better quality at Fatou's (save money). All and all, Ms. Kinks is great with understanding what type of style you want, but she's not very good with people from what I've seen. Her shops are pretty nice for the most part, but definitely not professional, her prices are outrages sometimes for mediocre work. I would rather pay less, sit in a dirty salon that is employed by nice people who do an exceptional job, than more more, sit in a nice trendy salon with a rude unappreciative owner, and stylists that do okay work.

I made an appointment and when...

I made an appointment and when i showed up I was told I would have to come back because they were working on someone else, needless to say I was not happy. What is the point of scheduling appointments if you don't honor the time you set for me to show up. I did not go back and I never will......poor customer service.

I was told about this shop a f...

I was told about this shop a few weeks ago. I'm VERY SORRY that I didn't go to this shop in the beginning. I trusted my salonist of 10yrs to "loc" my hair and because of her NO EXPERIENCE in locs!!!! I have lost more than half of my hair. I talked to CeCe who is a salonist and I went in the following day and I AM VERY PLEASED with her work and I look forward to going back!!!!

Initially I began correspondin...

Initially I began corresponding with an employee (not sure who, but I believe it was the owner NICOLE) who continued to tell me to check the website for all of my questions although some of the answers were not even there. Common sense would dictate that 'hey, I'm on the phone with this person now so why not just give her the answer she wants instead of being an @$$hole about it to someone who is trying to pay me?' She was rude and did not seem to have good customer service skills. The address online is wrong (1128 NORVIEW AVE) which caused me to arrive 10 minutes late to my appt. The shop in NORFOLK is dirty and everything is stained and dingy (zebra print needs to be washed!!!). The cape they used to cover me was smelly like it hadn't been washed in months!!! I showed up at 10 am to get kinky twists and upon entering was informed that since someone who arrived before me and was sent over by the owner, she would be taken first. I am 8 and 1/2 months pregnant mind you and had made my appt at least a week prior. Then when the person who was called in to do my kinky twists showed up, she continued to receive clients (thanks to the owner NICOLE) throughout the day causing her to constantly have to stop and finish them and then come back to me which severely delayed my departure time (1030am-PAST 9pm). The stylist did not listen well and she did my kinky twists as if she wasn't very experienced in doing them. Overall I was slightly satisfied with the hairstyle, but her technique was sloppy and she began twists in the front of my head with BRAIDS that extended rather far down into the twists (which I had to ask her to take out and redo beginning with a TWISTS)-very frustrating after having been there all that time. I haven't even had my kinky twists for a week and certain areas around the hairline are already beginning to slip out and hang on by a few strands. When I called and asked if this problem could be corrected I was told that if any of the added hair fell out, I would be responsible for purchasing a whole new pack of hair and to "hang on" to any hair that happened to slip out. I have already paid over $200 and now they expect me to pay more to fix their unprofessional and sloppy mistakes!? This establishment has the customer in last place and I would honestly NEVER return to get my hair done there again nor would I recommend anyone to go there...EVER

Overpriced Attitude

This braid salon is extremely expensive and you do not get what you pay for. I was charged $305.00 for kinky twist, unbelievable!! I thought I would get excellent, professional service. Instead I got attitude when i questioned the hair color being used and everything 15 minutes she took a break. I was hungry and tired but you did'nt see me getting up every 15 min. I would not recommend unless you like enabling attitude. this salon is not customer oriented, they're just in it for the money and it shows.
