This was my first and last visit to this salon. It was also the WORST hair experience of my life. I spent over eight and a half hours in this "Salon of Horrors" only to look like Bozo the Clown. I arrived on time for a 10 a.m. appointment with the Senior Stylist, Lorraine Corbin-Morales, who strolled in 30 minutes late. I was Lorraine's ONLY customer for the ENTIRE day. I have long natural and wavy hair and had expressed to Lorraine that I had not put any chemicals in my hair for almost two years, but that if she had something mild to control the effects of the humidity, I would be open to it. I also requested that she cut my hair in layers. She recommended a texturizer and then she began to cut my dry dirty hair. I thought this was odd since every stylist that has cut my hair always did so after they had washed and straightened it. Nevertheless, I trusted her as professional and allowed her to do her job.
I immediately noticed that Lorraine could not multitask. Every time she spoke, she stopped working on my hair. She did this even as she processed my hair. She continued to talk excessively about my brother, who she once "dated", and at one point I ended up calling him just so she could say, "Hello". This "work and stop" attitude continued on during my wash, and throughout the day. The back of my neck began to hurt from being in the sink too long; My head went numb and felt like it had gone to "sleep".
Lorraine later recommended highlights to cover my few grey strands; I reluctantly agreed.
As she highlighted my hair, she ran out of the product TWICE and had to walk to the back of the salon to mix up more. She even took the time to cut up and serve watermelon! Meanwhile, half of my hair was already wrapped in foil and being processed. I expressed my concerns to her, but she assured me that I was fine.
In addition, she brought her young daughter to work with her who was hyper and very headstrong. Don't get me wrong, I love children and have raised five of my own, but when I go to a salon, I want to get pampered, not deal with young children.
There was one other stylist there that day who finished THREE clients in LESS than half the time it took Lorraine to do just me.
Eight hours later, my hair was finally done. It was not what I expected, but it was decent. My husband paid for my hair, over $200, and we left starving and exhausted at 6:30 p.m.
Later that night, after the hairstyle had worn out, I parted and styled my hair the way I would normally wear it. It was then to my horror that I noticed the damage. I had bright orange patches and over bleached yellow stands that were beginning to break near the left front of my hair. I sent Lorraine a friendly message, which she ignored.
After a full 24 hours of not hearing back from Lorraine, I contacted her again. This time I was firm. Lorraine acknowledged that she had received the pictures of my damaged hair, but stated that she did not get the text in full. Really? Didn't she wonder why I sent her the pictures?
Lorraine offered to "fix" the problem, but frankly I did not feel comfortable with Lorraine touching my hair again. I politely asked for a refund for the highlights only, and she agreed to my request.
I never received my refund and Lorraine has NEVER apologized for damaging my hair.
It's no wonder that after 20 years of business Lorraine has NO CLIENTS on a Saturday, which is normally the busiest day of the week for most stylist. She stated to me that she valued her customers and was a woman of integrity, yet she refuses to honor her word and refund me my money She also stated that she only wanted a certain "class" of people in her salon. Well in order to attract "class" you have to be classy yourself.
To everyone out there reading this: STAY AWAY! Find yourself a competent stylist who will respect you.
