AVOID THIS PLACE



I am giving only one star to this salon because I cannot give less.



I had an appointment there about three weeks ago and my hair was cut by some young hairdresser (not Julie) that works there three days per week. I am a man, have short hair and clearly don't mind paying top dollars to get a good haircut. The best places in town charge $45 for a males haircut and I was fine paying this much (it was my first time at this salon as my usual place was closed for a couple of weeks in June).



Hairdresser: she was amicable, friendly and nice. I don't remember her name (Carry? just remember she said she was from Trumansburg and that she was young). Conversation was very conventional but she was clearly very inexperienced. I asked for a short haircut with an edgy look and she seemed to understand what I was asking her to do.



Haircut: a complete disaster. She insisted on using sissors when it was obvious that she absolutely did not know what she was doing. Hair ended up completely uneven on sides and back. She was so ashamed that she did not even show me what she had done with a mirror once it was over. I had to ask her to cut some more on a couple places just so that it would not look so amateurish. I asked for edgy not for redneck trashy with head left with holes in hairline. That she asked me for $45 for this disaster was a perfect reminder of how pathetic the situation is in Ithaca when it comes to getting anything slightly elegant or tasteful. It's upstate NY pretending to be a big city (and charging big city prices). What a shame.



Conclusion: There are a couple decent salons in town and it is not my role to advertise them here, but if you want a haircut, take a bus round trip ticket to the city and spend the day in a civilized place, see some friends and get a haircut somewhere the prices charged are actually fair. This salon will never see me again.



PS: I have actually thought carefully about writing a review. I waited three weeks before deciding to do so. But seeing myself in the mirror every morning is such a reminder that I am fed up with it. I don't usually write reviews either. I just hope to avoid others to go there without knowing what my experience has been.
