Overall

The movers were nice and courteous but what they failed to mention before the fact that the movers told me later was that they were not allowed to enter the moving truck? I hired 2 helpers so it may be different with the insured movers. Also, they were unable to lift anything heavy. That being said we had to move all the things I thought I was hiring them for (washer, dryer, couch, dresser) but they helped with the boxes. Setting up the service was easy and the movers were on time. My advice: get a CLEAR idea of what they will be moving

Terrible experience, worse customer service, even worse managers to handle bad experiences... only made things worse. Never use this service, find friends or even two people at a truck stop, but don't use this company

SML movers helped us unload our large moving truck in now time. They were kind, conscientious, and efficient. We had a change of events that required us to move from out of state within a short time. They helped find reliable and hard working movers to aid in unloading once we got there.

SML did a really good job helping me pack my 1 bedroom apartment. They were quick and hard working. I do wish they had taken the time to cover a few of my big furniture items a bit more carefully, but they were excellent other than that!

The movers were courteous and did a good job. The service is extremely overpriced. SML makes a large profit and the actual movers make less than 25% of the fee charged. SML calls local movers and sub-contracts the job to them. Do yourself a favor and call the local movers directly and save a bundle.

1) my contract said pro movers with tools. What I got, per a supervisor on the phone when my wife called to complain, was two laborers with no tools.

2) they had to borrow my neighbor's tools because one guy left them at a previous job and they had no moving straps so they used my motorcycle tow straps and kept them so I had to buy more to get my bikes to GA!!!

3) they didn't know how to move large items that I clearly spelled out on the sheet...my wife had to direct them on how to get the fridge and stove up the stairs.....amoung other things!!!!!

4) they improperly loaded truck and told us we should of had blankets, bubble wrap and tow straps. I was told the PRO MOVERS would have e erything. Items shifted and new my grill was destroyed my entertainment center was gouged and ruined and my son's dressers was scratched up because of the items THEY placed on top of them. And they threw my wheelchair on top of my flat screen.tv!!!! And then SML wanted multiple pics which is not possible because our stuff is in storage but we had pics of the damage but that wasnt good enough.

3) it took them 8 hrs to improperly load this ONE truck because they kept standing around asking my wife for instructions on what to do next and how to load the truck!!!

4)I spent $1000 on two horrible (but polite) movers and all SML refunded me was $100!!!!

I had a great experience with this company! Quick and inexpensive for the work they do! I would highly suggest to anyone looking to move! And you get a discount if you use a Penske Truck!

Unfortunately, I had a bad experience with this company. I paid twice as much in my destination city for SML than I did for moving help from another company in my city of origin. The labor arrived in the last five minutes of their hour window although I had said how important it was that I be able to get on the road quickly and the phone consultant said they'd actually be there earlier than their documented time. They were not professionally dressed, did not offer any ID, and didn't even introduce themselves. The movers also commented on the volume of my belongings (I was moving from a house to a small apartment) and on the odor of the apartment (the landlord smokes). It was embarrassing to say the least. I have already spoken with customer service to let them know my disappointment and to explain why I won't be using this company again.

I am doing a live review. NEVER USE this company. We booked pro movers to load our tuck this morning. Let's see the # of issues if i can list them all. THEY ARE HORRIBLE !!!!



1. Texted us last night that they would like to start at 7 am instead of 830 am. We agreed. Guess when they showed up at 8.45 am.

2. They showed up with a supervisor who spoke English - no1 else speaks English. Then she left after 20 minutes did not even inform us.

3. 10 minutes later 2 guys took of there work T-shirts from the company and walked out because they thought the truck was too small and will not fit everything. We live in a 3 bedroom townhouse in the bay area and rented a truck that moved 7 bedrooms.

4. while the 2 guys were there they just stood there - and were not pro because we asked them not to drag out expensive furniture and not to stand on our furniture. Are YOU KIDDING ME.

5. Called there customer service and have been on hold for last 40 minutes moving from one rep to the other.

6. called the supervisor who has shown up for 20 minutes ( got her # from one guy who chose to stay behind and actually do the work) - she said she is running a personal errand and cannot be there for another 40 minutes.

Now my husband and i are moving boxes because we have to get on the road for a 900 mile drive.

Horrible experience! I used this company to load my belongings in Albuquerque and then unload when I got to Denver. The two guys in Albuquerque did not shrink wrap ANY of my items nor did they wrap one single blanket around my furniture when they loaded in the truck. When the crew in Denver went to unload, it was so bad that they took pictures of the way the truck had been loaded and took pictures of all my damaged furniture. Almost every piece of wood furniture I own has some type of damage. Their claims coordinator, Sheila Gencalp, told me that their company is only responsible for the loading and unloading that they can't be responsible for what happened to the furniture during transport. I hate to inform Sheila, but if HER GUYS would have wrapped my furniture appropriately in the blankets and not just thrown my head board on top of my dresser and my nights stands on top of my eliptical machine, my furniture would not be damaged! What a horrible company, DO NOT USE THEM!!

Loading the truck was fine. The guys that showed up were very knowledgeable. It just took them 4 more hours than I had anticipated. However, looking back it was worth the extra time as nothing got damaged (beyond repair). The unloaders that showed up were stumbling drunk and disgusting. They proceeded to be verbally abusive. One of them relieved himself on the tire of the Penske truck right out in the open for all to see. Just praying I don't have to move again. I will say that SML had very little control on who was sent out to help.

Unfortunately, upon reviewing my receipt from SML, I would NOT recommend SML to others. I have used more experienced movers (SML's "Pro" service), who worked quicker (and cheaper) with Two Men and a Truck (would recommend this company, have used it several times on previous moves). Regarding the 'helpers' used on the unload - they came from a local day labor place and although they were pleasant and worked hard, had little experience with residential moving (did not know of to use dolly, dropped furniture and two boxes of dishes off the truck, etc).

Requesting movers through penske's website was very easy. I was quickly contacted regarding my move. We had helpers load our truck in Illinois and then another set of helpers to unload the truck in Colorado. To load the truck one of the 3 guys did not show up, but the other 2 guys worked so hard, it really didn't matter. They were on time, polite and worked their tails off. The crew to unload was equally awesome. All 3 guys showed up on time and were professional and polite. I would definitely use this service again. We saved thousands of dollars from hiring traditional movers. Thanks again SML.

Used them to pack my pod - the customer service when ordering was very pleasant. The PRO movers were fast but lacked packing skills, they did not cover my mirror, TV or tables with the moving pads i provided.

We used both the packing service and the loading/unloading service for our recent move from Rhode Island to Virginia.

First, the packing. I was assured that the company was sending two "professional" packers to come pack my china, breakables, and artwork. Of the two women who arrived, one clearly had experience, while the other (her sister) appeared to have no idea how to wrap/pack anything. Regardless, I monitored them as they wrapped breakable items and placed them into boxes. Everything looked like it was going fine. They were incredibly slow however, and only did about half of what they should have been able to pack in 4 hours (probably because the experienced sister was coaching her inexperienced sister the whole time).

The problem became clear that night when we went to move some of the boxes that they had packed. Basic rule of packing breakables- when you shake a box, nothing should move. The first box we moved rattled loudly, and we discovered that they had only half packed it... leaving the top half empty! No packing paper, nothing at all! This then meant that I had to open EVERY SINGLE BOX that they had packed to check. In many cases, I had to repack, or at least add sufficient packing paper/cushioning to ensure that my breakables wouldn't break. In addition, despite my extensive selection of boxes, they chose to pack "extra large boxes", which were totally unsuitable for fine china and breakables, and they literally packed them too heavy for my husband and I to even move together.

When I called SML to complain, despite initial apologies and sympathy, they told me that perhaps these women just had a different packing "style" than I do. Um... no, it's not a style issue, it's a basic rule for packing breakables. When I explained that I had to spend 2 HOURS repacking the boxes, they told me that because I had repacked... they wouldn't be liable for any damage that occured!!! I asked, "so you would prefer that I move these terribly packed boxes, wait for everything to break, and then file a claim?" The manager said, "Yes." SML only offered me 10% off (or about $50), despite the fact that I spent HOURS repacking the boxes. What a huge waste and what terrible customer service.

The movers were okay on both ends. Not super experienced, but did the job in a mostly reasonable amount of time. At one point the Rhode Island movers told us that they had to leave midway through the job (???) to go to another job site, but a call to SML cleared that up and they stayed until they finished. Not an amazing pack of our truck, but good enough.

Overall, use them for moving labor if you're on a budget, but DO NOT LET SML PACKERS DO ANY PACKING FOR YOU.
