We first tried this legendary place a few weeks after Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives aired the segment filmed here, and the line was far too long to wait for a burger. So we went to Christian's Tailgate where we were blown away by the tasty burgers. Today we were excited to be in the area again, because it was a Monday, and rainy and late in the lunch hour! We did get the last indoor table and placed our order for the regular cheese burger and the Southwest burger topped with avocado and pico. We were so disappointed. The buns were too big, the meat too well done and dry, the lettuce all fell off. Never really found any noticeable pico on the Southwest. Just didn't have the heart to finish it. The Tex Mex fried onions and jalapenos we shared were substantial, but the onions were anemic and the jalapeno strips scarce. I hate it when a legend doesn't measure up to its reputation. We both gave it a 5 on a scale to 10.

I was so excited to try Lankford because I heard so many good reviews from it. I was quite confused when I entered the door because I did not know how the system worked. Once my boyfriend and I found a table it took about 5 minutes for someone to ask us for a beverage. I noticed that we were getting the least attention out of everyone in the restaurant (we are Asian). The waitresses were smiling to everyone but us. Whenever I received my burger, instead of medium, it was practically rare. We had other friends come in after us and it took them almost 20 minutes to be asked what to order. We have 3 different waitresses because the first one never came back, the second one we had to go up to and ask if we could order she also never came back, and the third one gave my second group of friends their food. Without even saying a comment, my friends also noticed they were being a little racist. Considering we were the only Asians in the whole joint, we were given the least amount of service.
I would come again just because although the burger was rare, the flavor is just right. The onion rings are delicious. At least next time I will not be expecting great service and will not come completely starving since it will take 40 minutes for a waitress to come ask if I would like some water.

Great Hamburgers and they are way too big for me to finish. Place is old with some patched up furniture and that is how they can keep their price down. If that bother you then this is not the place for you. The services are good. We got there on a Saturday morning around 11:00. Place is not crowded and we got our food in a reasonable time. This is going to be one of our favorite places for a good old fashioned hamburger.

The glasses with old food stuck to them were a nice touch to start out the experience. The table which was beyond filthy.. ugh. We asked to get it cleaned, she starts wiping it down, throwing the dirty food in our laps, almost on purpose it seemed.
Food wasn't that great. No need to go back. It's not worth the block and a half you get to walk since there is zero parking. If i lived across the street from this place, i'd go. I sure wouldn't go seek it out if I were you.

I grew up eating these burgers, and for decades not once did they displease, every bite enjoyable. Due to various circumstances I moved, but when I return I make it a point to return to this ""LG"" at least once per visit. I normally order a burger with fried onions, guacamole and cheese, a belt buster for sure, but when you eat it once or twice a year, not so bad. This last time had me glaring at my burger mouth agape. Before even making carbon contact with my burger, I was shocked to see the new staff. Traditionally, the place was a few people who had a common physical appearance led by a woman who was clearly a maternal leader. My burger arrived to me in patches. Rather than the grilled sponge of grease that was the patty, I was given a dry flake of grey, the cheese cold and hard, bun dry and stale, onions raw, with the little semi visible tendrils of grey oozing from their creases and the final straw, an avocado half, unsliced except for the initial incision and barely pitted, little tufts of lightish brown left behind creating an unpleasant crunch. It was with a heavy heart not caused by the ancient trans-fats sitting in their deep fryer, because of this a decades old client is bidding you farewell forever, pity.

I had heard about what great burgers they served. What a disappointment. Took forever to even get our food because the ""kitchen got messed up"". Everyone seated after us already had their food. They didn't have any chicken and one of our party wanted a grilled chicken sandwich. Also didn't have any french fries - that's totally weird. The burger was way overcooked, too dry and absolutely no flavor. My husband couldn't even eat half of it. Service was slow but I do appreciate that the servers are doing the best they can based on how crowded and tight the place is. Burgers at McDonalds have more flavor and at least they have fries. Will never go again. Can't understand what the attraction is. The cashier couldn't even add up our ticket correctly!

I am replying back to the person who commented on the waitstaff at Lankford's (Robin) She is a hard working waitress, who works her tail off for the customers. She may at times seem aggravated, but that is just part of her charm. She means no harm! If you had to wait on the amount of people that the waitstaff at Lankford's does, believe me u might get a little overwhelmed at times yourself. AND U who called her names, U KNOW WHO U ARE, u should feel ashamed. Maybe she was just frustrated and having a bad day. We all have those once in awhile. We are only human! Anyways, we at Lankford's do the best we can with the staff we have. We do our best to take care of our customer's and would appreciate it if U guys could understand how busy we have been. We are not a fast food place, all our food is made to order. So if u are in a big hurry, maybe we are not the place for u. We try our very best to please all of our customers, that is our top priority. So please just try to bare with us, we are trying to make some changes, to ensure good customer service.
Thanks, The Lankford Staff

I was very excited to finally try a burger at Lankford Grocery. I've read that the burgers are unbeatable. I found my burger to be in great need of seasoning and dry. We were seated for about 10 minutes before our order was taken. It was not worth the hour drive for this meal.

I agree with some of the other reviews. The food is great...good old greasy burgers and southern cooking, but the service is not very good because the place is small and busy. It takes them a long time to clean off the tables. You'll never get a drink refill. Everyone there is really nice, but they're just under-staffed!

Lankford has awesome hamburgers, fries are greasy. NO parking, the service is horrible mainly because it is so busy. The place is very small so you might have to sit outside or wait to get a table. refills on drinks forget about it, time you finish your meal is when they come around to fill up your cup. hamburger is around 5$ add fries for $2 and drink is around $2 also.

These burgers are by far the best in town. We order the single burger and it is hugh and hot! Don't make the mistake of ordering the double burger, it has to be made for two people. Rather than fries, we order the ""tex-mex"": a combination of very thin onion rings that are mixed with thin slivers of jalepanos - all fried crispy of course. This order is big enough so that it can be shared by two people. We have directly heard from friends that the daily specials (chicken fried steak, enchiladas, etc) are likewise good and delicious. We have eaten burgers here about 20 times and each time the quality has been consistently good. The restaurant is an old converted store and the ambiance is lacking, but it is clean - that's what counts. ...probably not the place to bring your date for a proposal :-) But, for good food, come here. But be fore-warned, on weekdays there will be a line out the door if you don't arrive by 11:45.

Smiles everywhere. Sat and talked to a stranger about Conference USA football. Cold beer, great service. Price can't be matched. Not only are their burgers great, try their breakfast. Good old home cooking, and one of the only places you can actually order a Lonestar. One down side, they do not accept Credit Cards. But for the best cheese burger money can buy, I don't mind a bit.

Our expectations were high after reading somewhere this was the best of the best burgers in Houston....what a disappointment !!! The service was sluggish but the food arrived within about 5 minutes(I questioned how they cooked it so fast), the Tator Tots were hot and delicious, my beer was cold and unfortunately so was the burger. We were served precooked, overcooked, dry meat, barely warm, served up on a cold bun. The vegetables were fresh so why wasn't the burger??? I agreed with others, if this is your specialty, why would you ruin it by precooking the meat patty? Bellaire Broiler Burger, Bubba's and Beck's Prime remain my favorites.

I agree with the previous reviewer, the burgers were definitely all hype. The burgers were not cooked to order at all, but pre-cooked and just assembled. You can tell when a buger has been cook to order when it comes out juicy and hot. Also, how could you get your burger within 5 minutes right after you just ordered it.I'd have to say it was quite dissapointing, especially if all they do is specalize in burgers. The burgers remind me of Papas Bugers, which are just big, but as we all know the more doesn't mean better. They need to bring a in-n-out burger here to houston to show what a burger should taste like.

Park at your own risk. The place is falling apart and looks like the termites are enjoying the actual place since parts of the building you can see falling apart. You might slide out of the place. The food was terrible, service was lousy and the owners don't care about their customers. The owner refused to help a friend out of the lot when his car got stuck in one of their holes. Save your money, just buy a double cheeseburger from Mcdonalds instead.
