Currently, Mrs. Smith is serving as the facilitator of the Lakeshore Fibromyalgia Support Group. This group is open to persons with fibromyalgia or other medical issues involving chronic pain. Since 2000, she has maintained Health Affiliate status with Brookwood Medical Center where she is a member of the Brookwood Physical Rehabilitation Team.

Herndon earned her bachelor's degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. She went on to obtain her medical degree at University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Her training in adult psychiatry took her to University of Connecticut where she successfully completed her residency.
