Great Alaskan Holidays

Be warned this company does not want to know when there is a problem. Four days of engine problems meant the RV we rented was extremely slow - it struggled to get up hills and at times we were averaging not even 20 miles an hour. As a result of this we fell completely behind on our schedule and had to miss areas we had planned to stop and visit between Fairbanks and Valdez. We had to get to Valdez as a ferry was booked to Whittier.

GAH had said they would fly an engineer to Fairbanks to fix the RV. They never did they left us struggling for 4 days. Eventually when we were nearly back at Anchorage an engineer was sent who fixed the RV.

On return to Anchorage we visited the manager at the premises. 'Don't worry we will sort it when you drop the RV off' was his response to our lengthy explanation of our complaint. There were many other faults we had with the RV.

So the following week we drop the RV off and the female at reception said the manager was not available and she was aware of the situation. We were offered one days rental of $180 as compensation. My husband walked out in disgust.

BE AWARE Great Alaskan staff confirmed there policy is to get dissatisfied customers off the premises when there is a problem - they offered us a taxi instead of the shuttle pretty quickly - this is not a nice gesture they leave you to pay for it!

If you rent from these and there are no problems then you will be okay but bear in mind the reviews, like mine, that bad rate Great Alaskan Holidays are customers who had a problem and that's when they show their true colours.

You can't get hold of the owner, they respond to emails eventually but don't respond to the concerns raised.

And for the record the RV we had was not that clean. When we stripped the bedding the mattress cover was disgusting - photos to follow

Would not use this company again as their customer service is non existent.

We’ve rented RVs/motorhomes from Great Alaskan Holidays four times in the last eight years. We were always pleased with our experience. The online rental process is easy and well thought out. Their customer service can’t be beat. They make it easy to enjoy the last frontier of Alaska.



Our first trip with them was the first time we had driven a RV. Their orientation and attention to details gave us the confidence we needed to operate the motorhome safety, to know to use each option and how to use the supplies on board. Their customer focus made that trip and every trip since great.



Their RVs have always been ready when they say and are very clean and reliable. We have never had a problem with any of them. The campers we’ve rented have always been that years’ model. The supplies they include and the options are just what you need to enjoy Alaska without worry. I would recommend GAH to anyone considering a trip to Alaska. We’re even considering a fifth RV trip with them in 2014.

My experiences with Great Alaskan Holidays have always been first rate. I have rented from them on three occasions and have no complaints. Pick-up at the airport was done in a very expeditious manner by a friendly and informative driver who provided fishing advice. Check-in was painless and the required video is informative and offers great tips, even seeing it for the third time it served as a great reminder as to some of the features of the mobile home as well as driving tips. Drop off on all three occasions has been a good experience with no surprises. The mobile home was clean and well-stocked with bedding and cooking equipment. I plan to travel to Alaska for many more fishing vacations and I will always rent from Great Alaskan Holidays.

We have rented a Winnebago from Great Alaskan Holidays four times and have always had only the best of experiences. They are very organized and have things ready upon arrival and expedite your check out at the end of your rental period.

It is a great vacation when you have "your home" traveling with you!

And, of course their Iowa to Alaska trip is amazing.

Ok - how many ways can you say Special? Well, Great Alaskan Holidays have been instrumental in our 7 special trips to AK - They made sure we were in a safe and clean vehicle and provided any and all help we needed to explore Alaska. Each person was friendly, helpful and interested in us as persons.

Darrell has a terrific staff. We will be coming back in 2014 - we just can stay away. Thanks GAH for assisting us.

Not only they are expensive, they also have the worst service in town. I felt being treated as a number. No one cannot seem to update me on my RV in their shop. I kept getting transferred to a Service specialist but no return call. I finally came down to their store, met the service advisor, said he never got my message but instead told me that sometimes their clerk does not give them all the messages. I tried calling their store again while I just got done talking to him, from their parking lot, never left the store yet just to be told the advisor was not working there that day. It appears the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. Absolutely worst service in town.
