Comprehensive Examination
All birds and exotic pets need to be seen annually for a wellness exam, and we tailor our wellness exams to meet their health needs. The best treatment for any disorder is to catch it early, before your bird or exotic pet is showing any signs of illness. An annual exam gives us the opportunity to ensure that your bird or exotic pet is healthy and have baseline records and baseline blood values for future reference in the event that your pet is ever sick. An annual exam gives you one-on-one time with us so we can answer all of your health and behavior questions. We can offer many solutions concerning behavior, environment and tips to enrich your pet’s life using food, toys and other items.

We are more than happy to accept records containing vaccines, fecal exams, and preventive deworming from other veterinary practices. A physical exam from another veterinary practice does not qualify.
Pain Management

If food is not provided, we provide our Hill’s® Science Diet® Adult Indoor Cat Food for our feline campers. Laser Surgery
Laser Surgery. Winter Park Veterinary Hospital is one of the most experienced veterinary hospitals capable of performing laser surgery. Laser technology reduces surgical trauma to your pet, improves recovery and can shorten their hospital stay. A laser is a device that produces an extremely powerful and concentrated beam of light. Unlike traditional surgery with a scalpel or scissors which can bruise or crush tissue, only the laser light beam touches the tissue. Laser surgery provides the same benefits to pets as human patients: less pain, less bleeding, less infection, less swelling and discomfort after surgery, and the ability to resume normal activities sooner. Laser surgery can be used to make unique bloodless laser incisions, as well as to remove unhealthy tissue such as tumors, without excessive loss of blood typical of conventional scalpel based surgery.

Prior to surgery, all patients are carefully screened, and anesthetics are specifically tailored to your pet. We require pre-surgical blood work so we can evaluate your pet’s kidney, liver and heart function prior to undergoing anesthesia.
X-Ray
Dental Radiology
Digital dental radiography allows us to visualize the internal anatomy of your pet’s teeth along with the roots and surrounding bone. Most serious periodontal disease is below the gum line requiring dental x-rays to diagnose. Radiographs allow us to diagnose bone loss or hidden disease that may be present in the tooth roots and jawbone areas that may not have been visible during our thorough oral exam prior to the exam. Having digital dental capability allows us to sedate, exam, x-ray, and clean your pet’s teeth in around 30- 45 minutes depending on the severity of the cleaning and the number of extractions required.
Microchipping
This is an easy procedure that can be done in-office without anesthesia. Microchipping is the safest option for permanent identification. For more information about microchipping your pet, please view the microchipping page under “general services”.
