- Alta Mons is a summer camp and retreat center owned by the Roanoke District of the United Methodist Church and located in Shawsville, VA. We are open year round, providing space for others to experience God through our outdoor ministry. We have summer camp and other programs throughout the year for children of all ages, as well as facilities available to rent for family reunions, retreats, or small group meetings. Alta Mons has several challenge courses and a pool available to rent as well. We are a place for people of all ages, nationalities, and backgrounds to come for a retreat with God.

Alta Mons is such a beautiful place. It was easy to find with the big sign out front and the staff were very friendly and answered all of my questions. The hike to the waterfall was aweinspiring and great for kids. I've been back quite a few times and I continue to love it.
Alta Mons is not a fancy RV Resort. It is a small well kept campground. It offers 30 amp service and water at each site. You do have to go to the dump station to empty your tanks.
If you demand cable tv, wifi and all that stuff, don't go, but if you want a clean well kept camgrpund with great moutain views, this is the place. They even have stacks of firewood placed around the campground for the campers to use free.
We enjoy Alto Mons because it is so pleasent and only 34 mile from home. By the way, It's all of $20.00 per night.
