General Info
In 1972, Charlie and Dwight Butler founded Wasatch Touring, a shop focused on backcountry skiing as an alternative to inbound resort skiing. In 1976, the Butlers and their first full time employee, Riley Cutler, made the transition from a winter season store to a year-round business. The Wasatch Mountains and Wasatch Touring were at the center of backcountry skiing, kayaking, mountaineering and cycling during their infancy. As a result, Wasatch Touring has become synonymous with ski touring, mountain biking, whitewater kayaking, alpine climbing, and desert backpacking. As these sports have become more popular, Wasatch Touring has grown and continues to take part in the evolution of these sports.

Overall

Went to store to rent a full suspension mountain bike, and after enjoying the day riding a trail nearby recommended by the staff, decided to purchase a new model of the bike I had ridden. The deal was made even sweeter when they took my rental fee off of the (already discounted) price of the bike.

The salesman was extremely knowledgeable and easy to work with. Great service, great products, 100% would shop again.

Overall

I took up kayaking a few years ago and found a used Kayak on KSL. I didn't know much about kayaking gear and realized I needed some help outfitting both my boat and my self. There are not many stores in SLC that have much whitewater gear. I went to Wasatch Touring and found all sorts of cool stuff. Being new to the sport I needed some help and the staff was great. Not pushy but very helpful. After several trips to the store I was ready. Correct size paddle, Helmet, Dry top, Float bags for my kayak, Dry bag, a skirt that fit my boat. To top it all off.... I meet one of the owners, Charlie, when I was on the Snake River. I told him I was kind of new to this and he invited me to paddle with him. Was very cool, and he helped me alot.

I read this earlier review cla...

I read this earlier review claiming poor service and find it offensively silly. Obviously this guy has an exaggerated view of his own importance; He never once says he asked for help. I have been in many times, have viewed the staff work with many people, and have seen nothing but good to great service. While this shop is generally for knowledgeable people I was a novice and an old man and they went out of their way to give me great service. I brought them a charity project for someone in need and they worked as if they would earn a fortune and charged nothing. These people know what they are doing!
