Dental Care
The health risks associated with dental disease will greatly outweigh any anesthetic risks. Our anesthetic agent is Isoflurane gas which is very safe and widely used in human medicine. To further evaluate any risk factors we require pre-anesthetic bloodwork in all dogs 9 years or older, and cats 11 years or older. We do recommend that younger animals have smaller pre-screening testing to assess risks that we cannot find on a regular examination. All patients are monitored very closely both during the procedure and throughout recovery. We do not feel that any pet is "too old" to have a dental cleaning.

Vaccination
Dogs, like their wolf ancestors, are pack hunters. Efficient hunting in a pack requires a high degree of social organization. Dogs relate to people as pack members. It's up to everyone in your family to become "pack leaders" by performing simple exercises and stopping aggressive play. Failure to do so may cause other problems. Introduce your pup to a variety of positive experiences. Visit three new places a week (AFTER THE INITIAL VACCINATION SERIES IS COMPLETED) and introduce him to five new people at each place.

Nutritional Counseling
Signs of FIP often develop very slowly over a period of months. Early signs are very vague and mimic other diseases. Loss of appetite, high fever, and labored breathing are often the first signs. As the disease progresses, signs include very difficult breathing, distended abdomen, weight loss, and emaciation. Death will eventually occur from suffocation caused by a buildup of fluid in the chest restricting the ability of the lungs to inflate with air.

Parasites Treatment and Control
As humans we know how irritating mosquitoes are, and concern ourselves with West Nile virus. Pets on the other hand risk becoming infected with heartworms. Heartworms are not contagious from pet to pet and are only transmitted by infected mosquitoes. Adult female heartworms release microfilariae (babies) into an animal's bloodstream. Then when they take a blood meal, the microfilariae are passed from the animal to the mosquito. Once the microfilariae have developed into the infective larvae stage, they can be passed from the mosquito into a cat, dog or other susceptible animal. It takes approximately 6 months for the larvae to become adult worms. If not treated, heartworm disease is fatal.
Pain Management
Areas most commonly affected are the tips of ears, tail, scrotum, feet and toes. Immediate emergency care is required for an animal suffereing from frostbite. Do not rub or massage the area. Never use hot water on the area. Do not use a heating pad or hair dryer. Do not give pain medication. See your vet A.S.A.P.!
