Colonoscopy
As a longtime resident of the southeast valley, I wanted an opportunity to serve my community on a more local level and am excited to have an office here in Ahwatukee, in addition to my central Phoenix location. I offer general gastroenterology services including colon cancer screening with diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy. I am available for outpatient consultations for all GI issues including disorders of the esophagus, stomach, small and large bowel, liver, pancreas, and biliary tree. I do most GI procedures including colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, small bowel capsule endoscopy, ERCP, enteroscopy, Barrett’s ablation, esophageal manometry/pH testing, and PEG tube placement and removal. I offer open access screening colonoscopy and am contracted with most insurance plans. I pride myself in serving my patients in a thorough, caring, and professional manner.

Diarrhea

Internal Medicine
I graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine in 1996 with honors. I did my internal medicine residency and GI fellowship at the Phoenix VA/Good Samaritan/University of Arizona program, finishing in 2002. After receiving board certification in gastroenterology, I joined a combined private/academic practice in central Phoenix which I am still very active in. I am the Section Chief of Gastroenterology at Banner University Medical Center-Phoenix and have been the director of the GI fellowship program there since 2013. I do most of my outpatient procedures at Arizona Endoscopy Center, a free standing ambulatory endoscopy center located in central Phoenix. I am a partner in Arizona Digestive Health, one of the largest gastroenterology groups in the country, based right here in the valley. I am very active in the local GI community having served two terms as secretary/treasurer of the Phoenix Society of Gastroenterology and am a member of several national GI organizations.
Gastroenterology
Ahwatukee GI is the office of Dr. Joseph David, MD. Dr. David has been practicing gastroenterology in the valley since 2002 and in Ahwatukee since 2010. He offers expert consultation, screening colonoscopy, upper endoscopy and many other services.
Colon Cancer
Colonoscopy is recommended for all adults at age 50 (with average risk) for routine colon cancer screening whereby a careful examination is performed to discover and remove polyps. This procedure, which is performed under conscious sedation, has many indications including unexplained diarrhea, rectal bleeding, a family history of colon cancer, and changed bowel habits. Dr. David offers direct access routine screening colonoscopy without the need for an office visit for patients who do not have significant symptoms. This is routinely performed at Arizona Endoscopy Center.
Endoscopy
Using Upper Endoscopy (see above), a tiny device the size of a vitamin can be temporarily placed inside your esophagus to measure the pH (i.e. acidity) within your esophagus. This information helps with therapies and medicines to treat various symptoms. This procedure is performed at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center.

Ulcer
Upper endoscopy is performed to examine the esophagus, stomach and small bowel for abnormalities. The indications include frequent heartburn, trouble swallowing, abdominal pain, black stools, ulcer disease, and abdominal pain. This is routinely performed at Arizona Endoscopy Center.
