Swedish Massage
Swedish Massage is a method of massage that focuses on improving whole-body circulation while stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system so that the client experiences physical and mental relaxation. This style uses long, gliding strokes (effleurage), kneading of the tissues, frictioning of knotted muscles and rhythmic tapping and vibration. Pressure is generally lighter and less deep than myofascial or neuromuscular therapies.
Deep Tissue Massage
I've been a licensed, independent contractor in business since 2010. Most of my clients come back to me repeatedly because they enjoy my work and because I have helped them find relief. I specialize in chronic pain issues using deep tissue techniques. I'm extremely good at what I do and have been told by many clients that their session with me was the best massage they've ever had. However, I realize that not every therapist's style will suit every client. I believe it's important to shop around. I stand by my work, but if you're not satisfied with what I do, I can refer you to at least a few other therapists to try out.
Sports Massage
Sports massage is a style of massage geared more toward athletes and the stresses and injuries they may experience, given their activities. It uses specific massage techniques and stretches to help athletes enhance their performance. Sports massage helps them better recover from and/or avoid injuries, improves range of motion, increases flexibility, and relieves soreness and cramps due to overuse.

Neuromuscular Therapy
Neuromuscular therapy employs trigger point therapy. It works with deeper layers of muscle to deactivate points of pain and tight spots which refer pain around or away from the knots. It also seeks to increase range of motion by improving circulation and oxygen and nutrient delivery to the muscle tissue to decrease pain and increase muscular health. The goals and therapeutic intent of neuromuscular therapy are to reduce pain and ischemia, and restore circulation to the area.

True, there are times when getting a massage is something women like to do to feel pampered, like princesses. It may be part of a day at the spa where you get your manicure, pedicure, fascial and mud bath. It may even be something you treat yourself to on special occasions.

Myofascial therapy loosens the bonds between the fascia and the muscles to increase range of motion, decrease tissue adhesions and loosen scar tissues that may have formed. Myofascial therapy also increases the oxygen and nutrient supply to muscular and fascial tissues to improve muscular health.

I'm a firm believer in combining massage with other therapies such as acupuncture, chiropractic, physical therapy, yoga/ Pilates and whatever else you find works for you! And I encourage you to shop around! Not every massage therapist (or chiropractor, acupuncturist, physical therapist, etc.) is right for everyone.
