Carolina Yacht Club, founded in 1853, organizes various activities for its members. The club provides rental services for apartments and cottages. Its apartments feature living and dining rooms, kitchen, three bedrooms and one bathroom. The club also hosts private parties for its members. It organizes various sailing classes for children above 8 years of age. The program provides instruction on how to rig, derig, launch, return to shore, tack, jibe, trim the sail, steer and recover from a capsize. Additional topics include how to tie various knots and recognize weather conditions, racing rules, sailing tactics, sail trims, roll tacking and jibing, starting techniques and positive sportsmanship. The club publishes a monthly newsletter, the Burgee, that provides information on membership benefits and social and sailing events. Carolina Yacht Club is located in Wrightsville Beach, N.C.
