Treatments
Treatments at Healing Hands Wellness Center include soft tissue massage, trigger point therapy and Active Release Therapy. Exercise and stretches are also a very important part of an average treatment. If an adjustment is needed, it will be done after your muscles and soft tissue have been prepared, and only done if necessary.

FSM can be used to treat fibromyalgia, shingles, joint pain, back pain and can help lessen the debilitating effects of herpes outbreaks. Additionally, FSM is used in speeding the recovery time after surgery and in cases of traumatic injuries to the body caused by life activities ranging from sports to car accidents.

Therapeutic Cold Laser

A laser is a focused beam of light that emits photon energy.
Low level lasers do not have a thermal effect and are used to stimulate, rather than destroy, tissue. These types of lasers have been in use for more than 25 years with no recorded side effects. Lasers emit visible coherent light that is applied to the affected area. Bundles of light energy pass through the dermal layers, and are received within the cell membrane by specific energy photo acceptors. Within the injured musculoskeletal tissue, low-level laser light causes increased microcirculation and enhanced tissue regeneration. The overall effects are decreased pain and inflammation, and increased range of motion.Lasers are used by themselves or in conjunction with other therapies to help aid in healing injuries.
Erchonia Corporation began their commitment to conducting clinical research in December 1999
with Neck and Shoulder studies, as a means to prove viability to the FDA. At the time, the FDA considered low-level lasers "experimental" as no company had presented ethical clinical data to prove them safe and effective. Erchonia petitioned the FDA regarding a study, choosing neck and shoulder pain because it was one of the most common neuromuscular conditions of which few devices had been proven successful in treating.
The study began December 1999 and was completed August 2000.
The data collected on pain control was so impressive we were certain the FDA would grant market clearance without hesitation. Erchonia Corporation presented the results to the FDA in a 510(k) submission and for months the FDA told us the study was good. However, in January 2001, owing to the FDA's years of doubt regarding low-level lasers, they requested a second study: one that was more limiting. In our first study we mixed patients suffering from both chronic and acute neck and shoulder pain. The FDA wanted us to target either acute OR chronic patients. You can imagine the frustration we at Erchonia Corporation felt, however, being committed to our course we persevered.
Sensing the FDA's hesitation based on their long held opinion, that low-level lasers were "experimental" Erchonia Corporation took a proactive approach.
Steven Shanks, along with Erchonia Corporation's regulatory agent hosted a conference call with the FDA to discuss the strict inclusion criteria they wanted for the next study. We addressed all their concerns and ensured test criteria were included in the clinical trial matrix to address each of them. Erchonia Corporation again chose chronic neck and shoulder pain since we felt that if we proved this indication, it would demonstrate to the FDA, what we already knew, the incredible healing power of the Erchonia laser.

Patient had to have had the pain longer than 30 days
No pharmaceutical intervention for 30 days prior to and during the study
No over the counter medication for 48 hours prior to the study
Range of Motion measured using duel inclinometers, pre and post
Motor Strength testing (Hoppenfeld) of C-5 to T-1

Aromatherapy Massage

Application of essential oils can have immediate, localized benefit to the target area of application. They have restorative and calming properties and can be used effff ectively with massage and beauty therapy. Your massage therapist can add aromatherapy to any massage. Swedish Massage
Your massage therapist will use massage oils to facilitate smooth, gliding strokes called effleurage. Other classic Swedish massage moves include kneading, friction, stretching and (sometimes) tapping. Swedish massage uses firm but gentle pressure to promote relaxation, ease muscle tension and create other health benefits. Feel free to state your preference for pressure during Swedish massage. It can range from light to firm. Swedish massage usually includes some deeper work on areas of specific muscle tension.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and sore shoulders. Some of the strokes used are the same as in classic massage therapy, but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain.
Shiatsu Massage
Shiatsu massage uses accupressure techniques which are applied with hands, thumbs, elbows and knees. The acupressure technique has its roots from the acupuncture therapy and Traditional Chinese Medicine. The oriental medicine philosophy says that the main cause of diseases is in the unbalanced chi in the body. Shiatsu massage is used to reach the harmony of chi.
Passive Stretching
Passive stretching is also referred to as relaxed stretching, and as static-passive stretching. A passive stretch is one where you assume a position and hold it with some other part of your body, or with the assistance of your massage therapist. Slow, relaxed stretching is useful in relieving spasms in muscles that are healing after an injury.

One of the most significant benefits of the pilates program is its ability to increase the strength of stabilizer muscles that may not commonly be worked out in a standard exercise program. What do MY FEET have to do with it?
The health of your feet has a direct impact on the rest of your body. Like the foundation of a house, your feet support the weight of everything above them. When a small problem develops in your feet, even subtle changes in the way you walk will cause a chain reaction of adjustments in your posture and walking mechanics. These changes can throw off the balance of your entire body, and put stress on joints higher up, leading to more serious problems in other places you may not realize are being affected.
