General Info

The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality protects and enhances the environment and promotes the health and well-being of citizens. The department administers state and federal laws and regulations for air and water quality maintenance and supply and waste management. It administers a pollution response program that responds to air, water and waste pollution incidents. The department supports the Virginia Environmental Excellence Program, which is a voluntary program designed to support organizations to develop environmental management systems and pollution prevention plans. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality administers several water quality programs that include the components of construction assistance, animal feeding operations, and fish tissue and sediment monitoring. The department supports a petroleum storage tank program that includes various customer services for the community. In addition, it administers an operator training and assistance program in partnership with educational institutions to provide training opportunities for operator license candidates who wish to procure operator licenses. The department maintains a location in woodbridge, Va.
