Stress Management
Dr. Gina Scharoun grew up in a family that was well versed in the medical profession. She decided to pursue the psychological path after an especially powerful child development course that delved into the social and emotional development of children and adolescents. Since then, Dr. Scharoun knew she wanted to help others understand and navigate obstacles that created distress in their lives. Using the principles of cognitive behavioral therapy, she could help people actively make changes by helping them understand the interplay between their thoughts, interpretations and assumptions and their current behavior patterns. Dr. Scharoun's goal is to help people understand that despite past history, the current way of processing and acting can be actively modified to help clients reduce psychological distress and experience healthier and more fulfilling lives. While many disorders can be addressed using cognitive therapy, at times a more integrative approach is warranted, thus the approach is collaboratively tailored for the individual client. Dr. Scharoun is skilled at providing treatment for clients of all ages with a specialty in treating anxiety and depression in children and adolescents. Additional areas of interest with adults include coping with depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, social phobia, stress management, general anxiety, bipolar disorder, grief and bereavement, trauma, childhood trauma, maladaptive relationship patterns, women's issues and coping with medical conditions (including Cancer, Parkinson's, Stroke).

Mental health treatment is entirely different from other forms of medical care. There is a need for rapport and trust that may not be important for other specialties. I have been told countless times over thirty years that this quality really comes across to my patients. To be able to focus on everything that is being stated, as well as understanding a patients facial and body posture helps me quickly identify areas of important interest. Often I discover a critical issue when a patient changes their tone or utters a single word. This can speak volumes about their problem. They don't even realize they are actually revealing themselves with these automatic thoughts, and how they are expressing them. Introducing this revelation when it occurs. has helped my patients recognize their problems more quickly.
