This is average quality but tasty sushi--but you dont go to Sushi-ya for the food you go to people watch: lots of hot girls come here and the waitresses are very pretty. Great location, friendly staff, overall an A+. Portions are very small though and pricey. About the same price as Katsuya at 1/2 the quality, but I still love this place.

Dont know where to start but we just had an amazing time last night at Sushiya. I usually do not right reviews but felt that I needed to show my appreciation for their great hospitality. The staff where super friendly and knowledgeable about there sushi which made the experience even better!! Food was perfect, all the rolls we had where to die for and the sushi and sashimi where equally as good!! We even got a round of sake on the house sent to us from the GM. Thanks Sushiya for a fun and memorable evening, we will be back:)
I went to Sushiya a few nights ago with some of my girlfriends and we had the BEST experience! Not only was the staff great (very knowledgable and friendly) but the sushi was AMAZING! Their rolls are great, the sashimi melts in your mouth, and their Chocolate cake is to DIE FOR! I HIGHLY recomment this place to anyone that is a true sushi lover.... great vibe, great food, great price!
Was staying at the Mondrian hotel on sunset and got refered to Sushiya by the concierge. Was a little weiry at first but after my first serving of sushi I new that I found a home run with this place, the fish was FRESH. Great outdoor patio on the Sunset Strip and a very cool sushi bar, the chef was extremly friendly and creative(thanks chef Tiger)!! This will be my new favorite sushi restaurant whenever im visiting L.A.
Went to lunch here for a quick bite with a friend. The sushi service was fairly fast, but my friend ordered the beef skewers, and that took longer than it should have, especially as we were the only people in the entire place aside from the staff. Once the food came, she said it was delicious, however. My spicy tuna roll was good (standard) and my yellowtail sashmi was just ok.

A few of us went and ordered a few things - the soup, edamame and salads were fine. THEN came the fish and the rolls...YUCK! I hate to put negative ratings for any place but Sushiya on Sunset deserves nothing but bad reviews. We ordered a few rolls and they all were horrible. Sushi smelled and was chewey; the fish was old/dated and smelly. We complained and the server said she can do nothing about it bcz the manager was not there. I told her we wil not pay for these rolls/fish and they ended up deducting them after a mini fuss. Will never go there again.

This place has the longest list of rolls I've seen in a long time!! There were many to choose from and all of the ones we ordered were good. They were pretty big rolls but I felt they were a bit overpriced. Our waitress went outside for a smoke break while we were eating our first two rolls though, and we had to wait for her to come back so we could order more. But, she was perfectly nice otherwise. Location is also great, right in Sunset Plaza.

so I stopped in for a quick bite. This ""quick bite"" turned into two hours of waiting on a waitres ( antem I think her name was with short dark hair) who would stand in the corner and be texting while I watched my food sit at the sushi bar????The place is much smaller and trasher then I saw in the web page and I was very displeased with the service and ambiance. I would not recommend this place due to the service of my ""unhappy"" to be working waitress and the food was over priced for the quality:(

I was in SoCal last weekend for a friend's birthday and we stopped in this place after shopping in the area. Not only was the staff friendly, but the sushi and sashimi were by far the best I have ever had anywhere (and I am from the San Francisco Bay Area). The food was fresher than fresh, the menu was fairly priced and, sitting at the sushi bar, we were able to intermingle with the chef. He even got in our group photo! I highly recommend this place to anyone who appreciates fresh and delicious sushi at a reasonable price.

Great little Sunset sushi place. Fun al fresco dining and is totally ok for families. I brought my children there and the atmopshere is fairly casual and the sushi is fresh. I recommend the tuna tartar as a appetizer, my kids finished 2 orders! Nice place to grab a bite when you are shopping in the area. I will go back!

Sushiya is a nice place when you are in the mood for some mid-level sushi and more eye candy than anything. The best part about this joint is the location. Sushiya is right in the heart of Sunset strip, mich means that there is lots of eye candy of all kinds to enjoy. Seating is available on the street as well as indoors. You might not be so lucky to get seating for a large party since the restaurant is quite small. If you are looking for something more formal, with a scene and a touch of attitude Katana is a nice substitute right down the street. RED BUTLER - Concierge & Personal Assistant - www:RedButler:com

So I first learned about this place 2 years ago during my sophomore year of college. I fell in love after one trip!!! The people are really nice (esp if you go there often which I do), the view is really nice by the back windows and it is totally romantic with dim lights and candles on the table. Sometimes the service can be slow but the food is just AMAZING! I totally suggest the zuma roll. While the one of the more expensive ones, it is worth it. And may I suggest for those who like spice to order a side of spicy mayo!

I completely adore this place. I always sit at the sushi bar so i can't really comment on the tables (although i would put my trust in them fully). there is sidewalk seating if you like to people watch. they serve until midnight which is fabulous if you get off work late like me. they always have two delicious special rolls which change daily and the chefs are darlings. the rolls are priced around $8-$12 which i think is pretty standard but if it seems like a lot...trust me, it is so worth it. there is free parking in the back which is a miracle in LA. basically, anything you could want in a sushi place is at Sushiya

You HAVE to try this place. I sat at the sushi bar, it was one of the BEST experiences I ever had!!!! Trust me, Ive had my share of Japanese restaurants!! They gave extremely generous portions on everything and cranked out the rolls at remarkable speed. All the sashimi/rolls were sooooo FRESH. You know its high quality place when the fish melts in your mouth like BUTTER!!! The chefs are sooooo FRIENDLY too! They altered the rolls to our liking and they gave us free goodies that were to our INDIVIDUAL liking, very accommodating. The free stuff they gave was overwhelmingly generous and unique. Try the Lobster roll and SushiYa roll. They are to DIE for!!! Outside seating and an inside lounge are available. FREE parking in the back! If you love great food and great service at a reasonable price, look no further. GO!!!! What are you waiting for!

I have eaten at almost every Sushi Bar in town and I have to say that this place is hands down my favorite! The fish was so fresh, the staff and chefs were all so friendly and helpfull. This place is really cool, you can sit outside on Sunset and do some of the best people watching or sit in their lounge in the back and enjoy the city views will you sip on a cocktail. I highly recommend Sushiya!!! They really have what it takes.

I went to Sushiya and the service and staff were top notch. I sat at the Sushi Bar by myself and the sushi chef was very generous. He gave me a couple of free samples that were delicous (Try the octupus salad) great!! The restaurant is in a great location on Sunset attached to a French restaurant I forget the name of it. I would definately go back for the Sushi it was fantastic. The service was very friendly. by: Aprilann
