Ophthalmologists

Glaucoma
Dr. Shah performs Comprehensive Eye Examinations, manages and treats various ocular diseases and emergencies, and fits contact lenses including spherical, toric, and multifocal lenses. She treats patients with ocular surface diseases such as dry eyes, diagnoses and treats glaucoma, as well as co-manages post-operative cataract patients.
Ophthalmology
Dr. Bevacqua received his undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1989 and his medical degree from New York Medical College in 1994. Following medical school, he completed a three-year ophthalmology residency at Nassau County Medical Center in New York where he trained in medicine and surgery of the eyes and served as chief resident.
Macular Degeneration
During your exam, we will check your eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions. Additionally, all patients receive screening for common eye diseases (e.g., cataract, glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration).
Laser Eye Surgery
LASIK is used to treat myopia (nearsightedness), astigmatism, and low amounts of hyperopia (farsightedness). Using the most advanced and clinically safe technology available, our surgeons perform LASIK using IntraLase™, an all-laser, blade-free procedure in conjunction with CustomVue™.
Cataracts
Symptoms of early cataract may be improved with new eyeglasses, brighter lighting, anti-glare sunglasses, or magnifying lenses. If these measures do not help, surgery is the only effective treatment. Surgery involves removing the cloudy lens and replacing it with an artificial lens.
Cataract Surgery
Dr. Wertheimer has been in private practice since that time specializing in medicine and surgery of the eyes. He has performed thousands of surgical and laser procedures including no-stitch cataract surgery and LASIK. He has extensive training and a special interest in cataracts, diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. He also spent several years at a regional trauma center and has extensive experience in treating traumatic eye injuries.

Dr. Wertheimer received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. After medical school, Dr. Wertheimer completed a three-year residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center, the University Hospital of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He became board certified in Internal Medicine and a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and earned the distinction of scoring in the top decile of physicians nationwide.

Ultrasound
Cataract surgery is performed in our ambulatory surgery center located in Cedar Knolls. The procedure takes place in an operating room and involves making a small incision on the side of the cornea (the clear, dome-shaped surface that covers the front of the eye). A tiny probe is inserted into the eye and emits ultrasound waves that soften and break up the lens so that it can be removed by suction. Most cataract surgery today is done by phacoemulsification, also called small incision cataract surgery. Most cases do not require any injections or sutures. Anesthetic eyedrops are used to numb the eye for the surgery.

Plastic Surgeons

Botox
Treatment includes injection of botox™ in several locations around the eyes. Effects can be seen within a few days and usually last for approximately 6 months.
