Born and raised in Niagara Falls, Canada, Dr. Elder graduated from the State University of New York College of Optometry after serving an internship at Bronx Lebanon Hospital in New York City and with the Indian Health Service on the Navajo reservation in Winslow, Arizona. Upon graduating, Dr. Elder completed his residency in primary care at SUNY. After his residency, he served as clinic director for TLC Laser Eye Centers in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Elder came to Connecticut in July 2002 and joined our practice in May of 2007. Dr. Elder is experienced in seeing patients of all ages, from infants through seniors.

Emergency Care
Just had an appointment with Dr. Elder since my eye has been bothering me from when my two year old scratched my eye with the back of a pencil. He was amazing and was able to remove an eyelash that had become lodged on the surface of my eye. He walked me through exactly what was the issue and confidently treated the injury. I never quite know where you are suppose to go for eye injuries and was considering going to an urgent care and I am so glad I came here instead. They truly know what they are doing and you are in good hands with Dr. Elder!

Here at Wallingford Eye Care Center, we perform a complete eye health screening along with your vision exam every year. This means that not only will you leave our office with an updated prescription, you will also have the peace of mind that comes with knowing the status of your eye health and your risk factors for various diseases. Your annual exam includes a vision test, glaucoma screening with IOP & FDT visual fields, checking the inside of your eyes for signs of disease, routine dilation, and more! Macular Degeneration
There are two types of insurance that may help pay for comprehensive eye exams; medical, which covers eye health issues like macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy - and vision, which covers the refraction (where the doctor determines your prescription) and often provides a benefit towards materials such as glasses or contacts. Since vision plans do not generally cover medical eye problems, your medical insurance is required for billing these services.
Laser Eye Surgery
Many patients come to us every day struggling to get through their daily lives with their current choice of vision correction. Some have eyeglasses that do not sit properly on their face or feel that their peripheral vision is hindered by the frames. While contact users may find the lenses uncomfortable or have them fall out at inconvenient times. For these patients, we are pleased to offer orthokeratology, or Ortho-K, a revolutionary way to help you see clearly throughout the day without having to wear glasses or contacts and without having to get laser eye surgery.
