Welton's Seafood Market

I use to live in Va Beach, Va from 1982-1989. I worked at The Holiday Inn and knew a Man named Richard that owned "Laskin Seafood". When I googled it ... Welton's Seafood Market came up. I do not know if this is the same Richard or the son but back in 80's your Business had the Best Seafood including Shrimp, Crabmeat, Fresh Steamed Crabs oh how I could eat them now, the Fish Selections were always Fresh n smelled Fresh. I always went there and You helped me pack Crabs n Fish on Ice to take back home to my Parents where We live up here in the Shenandoah Valley. You never charged me extra and your staff was so Polite!! Times Change and I know Seafood Prices are Higher but if this is the same Richard I knew way back then ... Hello! My Family is down there and they will stop in to see what u all have on Tuesday. Its Great to know you are Still Open!!!

In response to the bad review submitted. Soft shell crabs are never held in seafood markets still in the water. This lady picked up the soft shells and proceeded to toss them around in the box which does kill them. She didn't gently touch them. She then flipped the top box over to look at the ones underneath, flipping the ones over in the top box. She was very rude & didn't seem to understand that she was killing the crabs making it impossible to sell to other people. I tried to politely explain to her the situation but she became very irrational & got loud. Yes she was asked to leave very politely as she was screaming profane language on her way out.

To those of you who plan to buy seafood, in particular soft shell crabs from Welton’s Seafood in Virginia Beach, I would like to warn you that the staff at this store is very rude and disrespectful.



My experience happened like this: My mom, daughter and myself went to this store with the intention of purchasing soft shell crabs. I approached the section where the crabs are kept and opened a box to see them, as I am sure most customers do. I DID, however touch one crab rather gently as it appeared smaller than usual just out of curiosity to see that it was a soft shell. First, I should say that I am used to seeing soft shell crabs alive and swimming in water of course, but this was not the case here. These crabs were still alive as they should be. I resume: So, I touched the crab very gently and the store owner saw this of course and rather angrily and rudely said “Mam don’t do that, the crabs will die!” but with the tone that one would use while reprimanding a child. I immediately apologized and looked to see if there were more because I wanted to buy more than five crabs, she saw me open the box again and said “bottom crabs are sold out”, in a not so nice voice, actually rather rudely! So, I proceeded by saying nicely I will buy the five as was seen in the box. Now let’s remember, I am being very polite and willing to spend money at this store. So, as this woman proceeds to get a bag to pack up the crabs I look around and say discretely and politely, “you do not have to be so rude, you could say it in a nice way”. At this point this woman slapped the shelf with the bag in her hand, and arrogantly said to me “That’s it, you are not getting these crabs from me” and pointed to the door as to direct me out like a dog. She repeated herself as she followed us, “OUT!” and mind you this was in front of my teenage daughter and mother, not to mention another customer. Her behavior was totally inappropriate, rude, and arrogant and certainly should be considered before anyone else goes to this store to buy anything at all. I am a professional, hard-working single mother, with probably- a lot more education than this woman has and I certainly do not deserve to be treated this way, whether I am about to give her my hard earned money or not. Let’s remember, I apologized right away for gently touching one of the crabs, I APOLOGIZED! Furthermore, there were NO SIGNS stating DO NOT TOUCH anywhere in this store. This woman overreacted and did it in front of another customer which was outright insulting and embarrassing to me and my family. This woman then slammed the door behind us. Now, I do not know what kind of people are throwing money at her to give her such a cocky attitude! I am still appalled with her behavior towards me and my family and somewhat baffled at why this occurred. Perhaps, and I am not sure, but maybe she does not like those who do not look like her, as my family and I are Asian. And, if she was being prejudiced to us, then that is all the more reason not to go there! Once again, this occurred at Welton’s Seafood on Laskin Blvd in Va Beach. I am sincerely suggesting that you folks do not give this store and woman your business because she does not seem to know what it is to treat others with respect and common courtesy. And as far as customer service, there was none!

Rude and disrespectful customer service from this woman do not deserve a star!
