Many a year has passed where I've decided I must do something about the decrepit windows and siding on my home, but I was reticent to do so knowing how arduous a process it can be. My concerns of dealing with contractors and snake-oil-esque estimates from smarmy salespeople were completely assuaged by the almost celebrity treatment which I received from Reynolds Exteriors. Reynolds sent 2 nice gentlemen out to my home to survey the property and provide an estimate. This whole process took longer than I expected but was quoted a competitive price to completely replace the siding on my home and the windows as well. I knew this would be an expensive endeavor prior to asking because my house is quite old and had original wood casement windows and shoddy mid-century aluminum siding. They were very quick to point out that this was an estimate and it could be inaccurate should there be any water damage surrounding the windows or hidden under the siding. I decided to go with Reynolds because of the personalized service I was given, and they were very professional throughout the entire renovation process. My new windows and siding are amazing and I've already noticed a huge difference in my heating a cooling bills!

Stay away!! I never got a quote because I refused to play along with the ridiculous high pressure sales game. Sales person would not even provide a quote without my wife and I signing a paper stating: we would let them display a sign, provide a letter or recommendation (before they even did work?), not disclose to anyone the quoted price, and so on. Also had the bottom of the page was "this quote is valid for today only!". I told the salesmen I did not play games and if he wanted to provide an estimate please get to it, if not he was wasting my time. He got up and left. Don't be fooled and don't waste hours of time with these people. If you decide to give them a chance make sure to get 2 estimates prior to letting them into your house and set aside an hour or two. I kicked them out in 15 minutes.

Mr. Van, unfortunately we do require all home owners to be present before we will begin to give an estimate. I feel this is self evident in that when making a major change to the exterior of your home, that all homeowners should be present to decide on a multitude of items such as window colors, window styles (double hung? Swing and clean? Slider Style? Bay and/or Bow Windows), grid patterns, interior finish color choices, siding colors, siding profiles, roof shingle color etc. Our reps drive all over Hampton roads, each and every day demoing our products and conducting estimates. This policy came into effect because when we come out for an estimate and only one homeowner is present the other homeowner will have many questions, which requires our reps to come back out more than once. Since they make their hard earned living by going out to demo our products for customers, it can become disadvantageous for them to have to make multiple trips when one would suffice the first time. So that is why we require all parties to be present, in the long run, it makes the home improvement process go much more smoothly. We are sorry we could not speak to you and your wife, but this is our policy.

great work from beginning to end

A couple months ago I was contacted via telephone by a gentleman from Reynolds by the name of James, who set me up with an appointment to get a quote on replacing my windows. He was very polite, and knowledgeable. A couple days later they even called me to verify the appointment the say before. Very professional. The sales rep that came out was very friendly and was able to answer all of my questions. He gave me a very good price for the quality of windows, and offered me some very good financing options. The installation crew was very nice, and got the job done very quickly. I love my new windows. Reynolds has earned a customer for life!

Pleased with the level of most of the work. Was promised that there would be no additional charge, but I had to go and personally buy something so they could finish. The Lead Man was short of rude most of the time. Glad it's over!

When we last spoke with this c...

When we last spoke with this company when a rep knocked on our door, my husband had told them he wasn't interested in taking an hour to get a quote when I had scheduled an appt for the quote, not realizing it would take this long for 11 windows that are all the same size anyway. This was a few months ago. I got a missed phone call from these people today and the person had called me twice, just minutes apart, without leaving a message either time. I called back and when the kid answered, it was just a plain "hello". So I said "Hello, I am returning a missed phone call" And then he said with an attitude "what is your name" so I told him and then I asked "how do I know you?" (because I am wondering why I don't recognize the number and why a random stranger would call me twice, not leave a message, and the pull attitude when I return the call) . THEN he tells me his name is Carlos and he is with Reynolds Exteriors and is following up on a quote request that we had spoken to someone ELSE about (again, we already said we weren't interested). So I tell him "No thank you, we are not interested" and didn't even get past "no thank you" before he hung up on me. Completely unprofessional. Looks like this company will be missing out when we get our windows done with next year's tax return.

DONT LET THESE CROOKS IN YOUR HOUSE!!

Read this before you waste your hard earned money and time.

They came knocking on my door about a week ago and I took the bait and set up an appointment with a salesman. So just a few days later the salesman comes into my house and shows me some big presentation and tells me all about the history of Reynold's Exterior. I will tell you that the salesman was very friendly and courteous, If I could remember his name I would post it. Anyways after I let him take some measurements he comes in and proceeds to quote me a price of more than $8,600 for my wood trim to be wrapped with PVC over aluminum. After telling him that was too much for me to spend he then lowered the price to something close to $7,600, which was still way too much for my wife and I to spend. He offered some financing (which I bet most would go for) but I didn't want a loan for this job.

So about a week goes by after kindly declining his offer and I get a phone call from Reynolds asking if it was possible for their VP to come out and meet my wife and I and take a look at what work I needed done and to make a great deal, so I thought. On the phone they mentioned possibly dropping the price by $3,000 or more and using my house for company marketing. Needless to say I agreed to meet with their VP. NOW PAY ATTENTION TO THIS. The VP show's up looking like Paulie Walnuts, from the Sopranos, flashing all his gold and perfectly combed hair. I let him in my house (HUGE MISTAKE) so we could listen to what was supposed to be his incredible deal. This guy sat at my kitchen table and insulted my house, telling my wife and I that our current trim was in ill repair and I really needed Reynolds Exterior's help to get my house looking nice again. After listening to him for about 10 minutes I wanted to ask him to leave but I was waiting for his offer. OK Here is comes. He proceeds to say that they could get my job done for approximately $6,500. Yep, that’s not the $3,000 or more they told me over the phone. What a joke! So, after declining his offer, he then offers some financing once again, which I quickly responded with "No thank you". He then says something in the lines of, "What’s $120 a month going to hurt"? Are you trying to put your kid through collage or something? I was flabbergasted! Now for the best part...After telling this jerk one more time that I would not accept his offer he then says, "You folks must have more money than me to throw a number like that away, Have a nice day". This guy wouldn't even shake my hand before he left. What a JERK!

I urge all of you reading this, please do not let these crooks take your money. They are way over priced and very pushy. They should be out of business but for some reason they are not. Do yourself a favor and never buy anything from someone who knocks on your door. Do your homework and shop around!

This is the only roofing company I know that goes door to door and tries to pressure you into buying a new roof. They are like used car salesmen.

Rip off

I was quoted $6000.00 higher from Reynolds exteriors for the same work and same material.

Dear Chesapeake, We cannot place a value on another company's price quote whether higher or lower for many reasons. Beware of low-ball estimates that may balloon over time or foreshadow sub-standard craftsmanship. We wish you the best in your search for a company to re-roof your home at a price you are satisfied with.

Unprofessional

I scheduled an appointment to get a siding estimate and cleared my schedule to spend an afternoon with the estimator. When the estimator showed up, he refused to give me an estimate without my wife present even though when I made the appointment, I clearly stated that my wife would not be available. If it truly is "mandatory" to have both the husband and wife present, this company should have told me when I made the appointment and not wasted my afternoon. Very unprofessional.

claimed iconBusiness Response09/02/2011

Dear Amcarnell, We couldn't not agree more, "wasting an afternoon" is a waste of time. The appointment should not have been confirmed if your wife was not going to be available. We hope you will accept our apologies for any inconvenience this has caused you and your family.

Waste of time

I called this company after getting two other estimates for siding and they said that because Im a landlord I cant have the siding fixed because Im not the actual homeowner. They researched my deed with the city assessor for some odd reason and I am the owner with a copy of the deed. If a company like this cant even set up a simple appointment then I would not waste my time with the hastle to pay them to do the work where the task becomes harder. In this economy right now I am very surprised because this was a 10k job thats needs to be done. Your loss Reynolds!

claimed iconBusiness Response09/02/2011

Dear PBryant757, We make appointments with homeowners only (be they a landlord or owner) of the property or reside at the property the estimate is for. Therefore, an appointment could have and should have been made with you! We are sorry for any confusion on our part and the representatives from our company have been re-trained regarding this process so it does not occur again. We hope you can accept our apologies for the unproductive time spent on your part. We would also like to thank you for your initial interest for an estimate and hope you were successful in acquiring an contractor for your siding job.
