Dental Examination
Your child’s first visit to his/her new dental home is a very important one. At this first visit, our dentists will conduct an oral exam to check on your child’s mouth and tooth development. Our pediatric oral health care staff will also provide information on how to care for your infant’s teeth at home.

Teeth Cleaning
Fluoride Treatment
At every visit we will perform a thorough examination, evaluating your child’s teeth, gums and other areas of the mouth. Your child will receive detailed oral hygiene instructions, a cleaning and Fluoride treatment. Cavity detecting x-rays will be taken as needed.
Dental Sealants
Dental sealant is a white or clear resin bonded to the hard-to-clean grooves of molars or premolars. Sealants are usually applied to the teeth as a preventative measure soon after the teeth have erupted. Some children’s molars have deeper grooves and pits giving them a higher risk for chewing surface cavities. Our children’s dentists in Gurnee and Vernon Hills will evaluate your child’s teeth to determine their risk and will apply dental sealants accordingly.

Fillings
Resin Composite
White fillings are made up of a composite resin that is similar in color and texture to your child’s teeth. These fillings will blend in, making them less noticeable and much more attractive.
Crowns
Tooth colored fillings are not for every tooth. They work best in small restorations and low-stress areas. At our Vernon Hills and Gurnee pediatric dentistry offices, we will always offer your child tooth colored fillings if possible. Occasionally, cavities on baby molars will cover multiple surfaces of the tooth, making it difficult to ensure the longevity of a white filling. In this instance, a stainless steel crown may be needed in order to place the most predictable, long lasting restoration for your child.
Bridges
While a straight, beautiful smile may be the most obvious benefit of orthodontic treatment for many people, there is more to be gained than meets the eye. Crooked, crowded teeth are more difficult to clean and maintain, increasing the likelihood of tooth decay, gum disease and eventual tooth loss later in life. These problems can result in expensive dental restorations like caps, bridges and crowns. Improper jaw alignment and malocclusions (bad bites) can cause wearing of the tooth surfaces, inefficient chewing and TMJ problems like popping, pain and locking of the jaw joint. Dr. Klein can correct these tooth and jaw alignment problems early so that the chance of these symptoms occurring is much less, all while providing you with a straight, beautiful smile!

Sedation dentistry is endorsed by the American Dental Association (ADA) and is a very effective way to make your child comfortable during their dental visit. That is why our Gurnee and Vernon Hills children’s dentists have incorporated it into their work at Affiliated Dental Specialists.

Orthodontics
Here at the Vernon Hills and Gurnee, IL orthodontics offices of Dr. Gary Klein and Dr. Thomas Lim, we agree with the American Association of Orthodontists’ recommendation that a child receive their first orthodontic screening by age 7.
