During his first two years of law school, Mr. Myers clerked at a litigation firm in St. Charles, Illinois. He spent the summer before graduation as a summer associate at an Aurora, Illinois firm that focused in bankruptcy reorganizations. During his third year of law school, Myers was a research assistant for Professor A. Samuel Oddi, who lectured in torts and intellectual property law. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association where he currently serves as a member of the Agricultural Law Section Council (Chair 2010-2011) and the Commercial Banking, Collections and Bankruptcy Section Council. He is also a member in good standing of the Fayette County Bar Association.

Wrongful Termination
After graduating from law school, Ms. Fitch worked at a personal injury law firm in the Chicago suburbs. Ms. Fitch then worked for a small firm in Rockford, Illinois, practicing in the areas of employment law including employment discrimination, wrongful termination, and Whistleblower Act as well as civil rights and nursing home defense. In December 2015, Ms. Fitch moved to Vandalia, Illinois and worked in the general practice of law. Ms. Fitch then served as the Associate Public Defender in Marion County, Illinois, where she gained invaluable courtroom and trial experience handling all types of juvenile and criminal matters from misdemeanor and traffic cases to first-degree murder.

Linda Shurtz has been employed by the firm since July, 1994. Linda is responsible for maintaining the corporate records for The Law Group’s corporate clientele. Linda prepares corporate documents, such as articles of incorporation, annual meeting minutes, employment contracts, leases, warranty deeds, and stock certificates. Linda also prepares documentation filed with the Secretary of State and Internal Revenue Service.

Real Estate Litigation
Cody joined the Law Group in April of 2015. She brings over 15 years of banking, accounting, and real estate experience to the firm. Cody assists with real estate matters including the preparation of contracts, deeds, leases, and loan documentation. She also conducts title searches and prepares title insurance commitments and policies. She also assists the Firm Administrator with monthly billing statements, account reconciliations, and other accounting procedures.

Misty joined The Law Group in April of 2020. Misty assists the attorneys of The Law Group with real estate transactions including deed preparation, title searches, title insurance commitments and policies. She also conducts real estate closings out of the Effingham office.
Eminent Domain
Rick holds a diploma for completing the National Institute of Trial Advocacy’s National Program, an intensive two-week trial skills course held in Boulder, Colorado. He has spoken on bankruptcy and agricultural reorganization issues for the Illinois State Bar Association’s Continuing Legal Education Program. He serves as a Special Assistant Attorney General for the State of Illinois, representing the People in eminent domain and related land acquisition matters. He was a panelist during the 55th Annual Meeting of the Seventh Circuit Bar Association held in Chicago, Illinois, which discussed the American Jury Project with federal judges and attorneys from throughout central and southern Illinois. Myers has been selected by his peers as a Leading Lawyer in several areas of the law, including Agriculture Law and Commercial Litigation.

Personal Injury
Kyra Willenborg joined The Law Group in May of 2001. Kyra prepares motions, jury instructions, and settlement brochures for personal injury and workers’ compensation cases. Ms. Willenborg is also responsible for preparation of marital dissolution and child custody documents such as petitions, marital settlement agreements, judgments and orders of protection. Kyra is the staff member in charge of collections for the firm.

Estate Planning
Ms. Apke has participated in Estate Planning Seminars as a guest lecturer. Pamela concentrates on the basics of estate planning as well as postmortem matters, focusing on the transfer of family farming assets. Ms. Apke has lectured for the University of Illinois Extension Service, Illinois Farmer’s Union, and the Illinois State Retirement System. Apke is a frequent guest speaker for Farm Business Farm Management in estate planning, estate administration and transitioning the family farm from one generation to the next.
Wills
As an estate planner, Ms. Apke provides advice to her clients on the transfer of property at death, ways to avoid probate, and methods of minimizing estate and other tax consequences. Pam has experience planning a wide range of estates, from those requiring simple wills and powers of attorney to those requiring sophisticated estate planning tools.
Trusts
Kyle E. Boose’s practice consists primarily in the areas of Wills, Trusts, Estate Planning, Estate and Trust Administration, Probate, and Real Estate.
Power of Attorney
Brenda joined The Law Group in August of 2020. Brenda is responsible for preparing estate planning documents such as wills, codicils, trusts and power of attorney. Brenda also prepares contracts and related documents, and files documents relating to probate including petitions, notices and inventories.
