Went there with my daughter to look into adopting a dog, the lady said I had to fill out an application. So I did. It was Loooong. Like phone book long. After, she said that she needed to contact the property owner where we live. I said, "sure"". After we got to interact with the dog, we come back in to..."bad news, we can't let you adopt a dog". I said, "why?" She said, "the property owner does not permit dogs on the property unless its for medical reasons."I said, "Ok, fine." My 7 year old daughter began to get really upset and cry because she immediately fell in love with the dog. All I could tell her was that they said no. They didn't even seem to empathize that she was balling her eyes out, they just kept on laughing and joking as usual. Please correct me if i'm wrong but isn't one of the objectives of the shelter to find these animals a forever home? I wonder how many potential homes these animals have missed out on due to the nonsense red tape policies this shelter has. Perhaps the director needs to review them and make some changes. Oh well, if they won't permit us to adopt one from them, other shelters will. The ones I feel sorry for are the animals. I hope they have enough "qualified" people to adopt them.

I went to Porter County Animal shelter yesterday to look for a pet to adopt. While signing paper work just to look at the dogs a young lady came in very distraught. She asked the girl behind the desk if she could see her dog and was told NO! There was police officer outside who this young lady was talking with while she was on her phone. I heard her saying, "they won't even let me see my dog and they're going to put him to sleep! HE'S GOING TO DIE ALONE AND AFRAID"! I don't know the circumstances that lead to the decision to put her dog down - but how dare the people at this shelter and the officer involved to not even let this young lady spend time with her four legged friend! I am disgusted by their lack of compassion! I will not return to that shelter. I pray for the animals going there. And I pray the workers find more compassion in their hearts.

I wanted to volunteer here but was very put off by the rudeness from the lady who ran the orientation and the apparent disorganization. Ive volunteered at other shelters but this one gave me a very negative vibe.
