General Info

Dr. Samuel Tarantino is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology as well as subspecialty board certified in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. Dr. Tarantino serves as the medical director of The Reproductive Medicine Group IVF and Surgery Center. Dr. Tarantino has a special interest in operative laparoscopy and tubal reversal surgery. He received the Award for Excellence in Operative Laparoscopy. Dr. Tarantino specializes in the treatment of infertility, endometriosis, uterine fibroids and menopause. He has extensive experience with infertility treatments including ovulation induction, in vitro fertilization and oocyte donation. Dr. Tarantino received his undergraduate degree from Hamilton College, his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and his Obstetrics/Gynecology training from Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He completed his fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Michael Reece Medical Center. He joined The Reproductive Medicine Group in 1997.

Dr. Goodman was very helpful and explained in detail the course of action we would take to hopefully have a viable pregnancy. Her best manners, along wither her staff were superb. As a person who gets uncomfortable around doctors and in the environment of a medical office, the Reproductive Group made me feel calm and safe.

Short term paperwork was not sent in timely manner that hurt me as a client it has been well over two weeks which therefore affected my job but the staff and dr is amazing I trust them completely with my care and body no doubt about that

I have never felt so well taken care of and accommodated by any medical office in my life. When I had to come in for an unscheduled appointment, my regular doctor, Dr. McCormick was not in, but her colleague Dr. Tarantino was very quick to step in and make sure my needs where met. Excellent care and service. I highly recommend The Reproductive Medicine Group!

Overall

While other practices we went to wanted to waste time doing lots of expensive and complex procedures, Dr. Tarantino was able to get right to the underlying issue. One prescription of chlomid was all it took for our first pregnancy. It was all quick and easy. The staff was all wonderful here -- especially Heidi at the front desk. Our results might not be typical, but we definitely will wholeheartedly recommend this practice to others.

Female Infertility
Fact: When a woman or man is dealing with infertility, the first line of action is often lifestyle modifications. For instance, as much as 13% of female infertility is associated with smoking. Eliminating the habit can boost both a woman’s chance of getting pregnant and a man’s role in conception. Alcohol can have adverse effects on ovulation, egg health and sperm viability. Additionally, research shows that approximately 70% of women who are obese encounter difficulty becoming pregnant. The extra weight impacts a woman’s hormones and ovulation, and in men, excess pounds effects semen production. For obese women, losing just five to ten percent of ones body weight can make an enormous difference in conception. It improves the chances of having a healthy pregnancy and delivery – and you’ll feel better, too.

The Reproductive Medicine Group “fertility experts” consist of Sandy B. Goodman M.D., Betsy McCormick, M.D., Samuel Tarantino M.D., and Timothy R. Yeko M.D. Four physicians are partners at The Reproductive Medicine Group and each doctor is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. All of our fertility experts are Reproductive Endocrinologists and have their sub specialty board certification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility.

In addition, women with certain non-cancerous disorders may face potential sterility associated with their disease or the treatment of their disorder. Removal of one or both ovaries performed to treat a benign (non-cancerous) tumor or conditions such as endometriosis can result in decreased fertility or in sterility. Women who test positive for the BRCA gene or who have a strong family history of ovarian cancer may elect to undergo prophylactic removal of the ovaries. Women with autoimmune diseases may be exposed to medications that are toxic to the oocyte or may experience premature (early) menopause. Finally, women who are age 30-40 and do not yet have a partner or for other personal or medical reasons need to delay pregnancy and wish to preserve their ability to have biologic children in the future, may choose to cryopreserve their eggs (otherwise known as egg freezing).

Ultrasound
Ultrasound (sonograms), semen analysis, blood draws and IUI with freshly collected sperm, are performed at the Reproductive Medicine Group Wesley Chapel office location Monday – Friday by appointment only. On weekends, ultrasounds, blood draws and inseminations are performed by appointment only in the mornings at our Fletcher (North Tampa) location. IVF egg retrieval and embryo transfer are performed at the RMG/IVF Surgery Center adjacent to our Fletcher (North Tampa) office.
Chemotherapy
Approximately 50,000 reproductive-age women in the United States are diagnosed with cancer each year. Earlier diagnosis and more aggressive treatment regimens have significantly improved survival and cure rates in children and adults with cancer. Although more effective, many of the current treatment regimens such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and medications associated with bone marrow transplant are toxic to the human oocyte, resulting in infertility or sterility. As such, reproductive age women facing cancer treatments need to consider all of their options in terms of potential future fertility.
Radiation Therapy
Sperm cryopreservation is appropriate and available for several indications. Sperm can be frozen and stored at The Reproductive Medicine Group’s North Tampa location for short-term use or shipped to a long-term facility for later use. Sperm is often cryopreserved for men who anticipate undergoing chemotherapy, radiation therapy or certain surgical procedures to treat cancer. Some men undergoing vasectomy choose to cryopreserve sperm prior to the procedure. Couples who are actively attempting conception but anticipate that the husband will be geographically separated for an extended period of time may elect to cryopreserve sperm so that it is available when the woman is ovulating. Finally, for couples who are anticipating undergoing a cycle of IVF, if the male partner anticipates that he may have difficulty producing a semen specimen on the day of the female partner’s egg retrieval, sperm can be collected in advance under less stressful circumstances and cryopreserved. Generally, a single semen specimen can be divided into two or more vials or straws for storage purposes. Currently, the cost of semen cryopreservation is approximately $1,850. Blood test are required to freeze your semen sample. Men who are anticipating chemotherapy should contact our office as soon as possible to set up a collection appointment and blood work. Minimally Invasive Surgery
Dr. Goodman specializes in treating patients with infertility, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), recurrent pregnancy loss, endometriosis, age related infertility and tubal reversal surgery. She also has a special interest in pediatric and adolescent gynecology. Dr. Goodman has extensive experience with infertility treatments, including ovulation induction, intrauterine insemination, minimally invasive surgery, tubal reversal, in vitro fertilization (IVF) and egg donation cycles. She is the recipient of the Excellence Award for Operative Laparoscopy and Operative Hysteroscopy.
Vasectomy
The Reproductive Medicine Group offers their patients the option of freezing their sperm at the time of a scheduled vasectomy reversal. The frozen sample is sent to an approved storage facility. The Reproductive Medicine Group is the only facility in the Tampa Bay area to offer this service. By freezing the sample, the patient is assured that sperm is available for future use in the event that the vasectomy or vasectomy reversal was not successful, or if scar tissue later forms, closing the area of the reversal.
Laparoscopy
Dr. Yeko has a special interest in advanced operative laparoscopy and hysteroscopy for the management of endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic pain and dysfunctional uterine bleeding. He has a special expertise in the treatment of infertility including intrauterine insemination, in vitro fertilization and oocyte donation.
