had never used movers before and we were very scared to be taken advantage of or they wouldn't do their job properly. Picked Great American because of the high rating on this site, however, some more digging revealed that some of these reviews do seem faked as others have pointed out (which I didn't like) We still went with Great American because I figured they couldn't all be fake and would have had more negative reviews. I wasn't dissapointed. Between Carlos always answering my questions quickly and without hesitation to the actual move it was a pleasant experience. Ron the moving specialist set up for our items to be prepped the night before our move. While they came early, the guys (led by John) did a great job and even gave us our wardrobe boxes early which helped A LOT! I liked Jose and asked if he was coming the next day, he told me he couldn't guarantee it. Well anyway, the next morning Jose and 2 new guys did show up. They moved very quickly and efficiently. They handled all the items with care. We had to leave early to go to Santa Barbara to sign our new lease, so my parents stayed with the movers until they finished. I know it was a long day for them, as they then drove 4 hours to our new apartment and unloaded all the items. To top it off, it started raining pretty heavily. We gave them doughnuts/coffee, pizza/soda, and they seemed very appreciative. I just want to thank Great American for providing a good moving experience.
My wife and I are relatively new on hiring a moving company, so when it came time to move from a temporary apartment in Washington to a house in California, we weren't sure where we could turn to for help with moving. So we started with online reviews of course and found Great American Moving & Storage.We had a good impression right off the bat when they answered the phone- the last moving company we had to deal with had an irritating answering service where it would take several minutes to get to a live person. Great American Moving & Storage. was very accommodating, and had absolutely no problem working around our schedule. In fact, they were able to move our stuff the very next day! Super.On moving day, 2 gentlemen, really nice guys, showed up almost an hour early with a huge truck. This would have been a good thing had my old condo association not sucked and allowed them to use the freight elevator ahead of scheduled time. Oh well. The movers were courteous, took care of not just our stuff but also were mindful of not scuffing the walls while moving.In sum, Great American’s service made our long distance move quite smooth, and we would recommend them without hesitation!
Most of the people are afraid of relocating because of the awful service of the moving companies. There is hundreds of moving companies but hardly any good one. I am lucky because I got one of the best moving companies helping me out during my move from WA to OK. I randomly called them and spoke with their sales rep. He was very attentive and informative too. He explained me the complete moving cycle and answered all of my questions. He offered me a very reasonable price and he was very specific in his quote. I changed the moving date once but they did not ask for any extra payments for that. However, at the moving day the team from great american moving & storage arrived on time. They have taken care of packing nicely. I was worried about the crystal ware, old and heavy furniture, and glass shelves and for the art works. But nothing was damaged or broken during the entire move. The same crew handled the loading and unloading which went really smoothly. In the end, I got a perfect move within the allotted time and within a very reasonable price. So, no I know which mover to use, so I am not afraid to move any more.
There are many companies to hire for the moves but only some among all these companies are actually deliver good service and Great American Moving & Storage is one of those few companies. Last month my brother-in-law used them for his move and just a week ago I used them for my move to Kansan from Washington. When I was looking to hire a good and cheap moving company that time my brother-in-law told me to use Great American Moving & Storage and he gave me their number. I called them, talked with their sales rep about the move; he too asked me many questions to get a clear idea about the move and later offered me a very good deal. I booked their service. Their movers arrived on time and they had the complete preparation for the move. Movers were in full control over the situation. They did not even take any rest. I liked the way they approached about the move. They were focused, committed, punctual, efficient and quick. It was a very happy move in the end. I got everything that I asked for. All my belongings were in great condition after the move. I am also very happy with the amount that I had to pay them.
The day after our move, the horror of unpacking over 100 boxes became apparent. As we whittled the pile down box by box over the weeks and then months, my wife realized that a few items were missing and somehow didn't make the move. These were things of low value but high sentimentality. I was loath to admit that we might have lost a few things that 'fell off the truck.' But my wife persisted and called Great American- 3 weeks we moved. Did they have these lost items?Sure enough, they did! These items became separated from the original batch and, absent any identifying name,Grea American held the items in the hopes that the owner would one day call. When we finally did, they were incredibly apologetic and delivered the items to our door the next day.Frankly, I didn't think there was a chance in hell we'd ever see those things again. There were photos in the box that my wife was heartbroken over losing. Thanks to Great American, we're all in one piece.I wouldn't think of using anyone else if I ever have to move.
Just used these guys for a medium sized move from WA to CA. They were amazing! When looking for moving companies, all I found were big companies that had call centers that were obviously trying to overcharge or small companies that wouldn't pick up the phone. These guys were just right: Very professional and had insurance but didn't have the large overhead big companies had so they didnt have the need to gouge me in pricing.They busted their butts too, worked fast, took care with my large expensive items and didn't even take a break. Kyle was very professional and even came over the week before to check everything out. He was in charge during the move and made sure his guys were working fast and hard throughout the move. They got there exactly on time and finished an hour early.I very rarely leave reviews but would HIGHLY recommend these guys. Ive had terrible experiences before in moving and Ill never use another company again.Thanks Kyle
Great American Moving & Storage exceeded our expectations! We had a 3 bedroom home and two large storage units to move to another state--our most challenging move ever. They worked with us to manage the cost to fit within our budget--two of their trucks plus one we rented, with their crew loading and unloading all 3 trucks. The actual cost came in about 20% under the final estimate, which was great--usually these things go the other way! Since the move took several days we had a couple members of the 5-man crew change before the final crew of arrived at our new house on the last day. All were hard-working, careful, and fast. So far we have found only one damaged item, a loose ornamental shelf with a broken finial. Here again Great American Moving exceeded our expectations; we thought more items would be damaged in transit. We had one especially delicate item - a grandfather clock which worked perfectly upon reassembly.
Recently we have moved to Oregon from Washington using Great American moving & storage. It was a sudden decision of using this company. Actually I booked another moving company at the beginning but when they tried to double the moving cost just one day before the move I cancelled them and randomly hired Great American moving & storage. I had no idea about them. So, it was a gamble for me which paid off in the end. Their movers showed what they are capable off. They arrived on time, kept their cool, stayed calm and focused, worked collectively, went about the task in an organized manner, never panicked, never looked to be in hurry, wrapped everything nicely and boxed, moved all our belongings to Oregon without damaging anything and within the schedule and charged a very moderate amount. So, in the end it was a move which was smooth as silk and which did not cost me much. I do recommend this company.
I had a great experience with Great American. They weren't the cheapest but I just had a feeling they wouldn't tack on additional fees at the end. What made me happy though (and kept me from stressing too much) was the excellent customer service I got from Carlos, who helped coordinate my move. I moved from Washington to California. On the pick-up day, there were 3 movers and they arrived an hour earlier than expected. I wasn't quite finished packing but I glad to get an early start nonetheless. What stressed me out was coordinating the move with my (admittedly picky) building I was moving into. I had to reserve a day, provide proof of insurance from Great American, get an accurate estimate of my movers' arrival, and have Great American sign and return a Movers' form. Thanks to the awesome customer service I received all requests were handled seamlessly.
This was my first time using a moving company out of all 5 times I have moved and it was definitely a good experience. Through the booking process, Great American Moving & Storage was very responsive, answering every single one of my e-mails and phone calls (I changed my moving date three times so there were several calls and e-mails). The guys showed up ten minutes earlier than expected and had my 3 bedroom house moved out and completely in a short time. They were very professional and worked the entire time without taking a break. Nothing was broken or lost in the move. The pricing was excellent as well. I got quotes from two other moving companies and Great American Moving & Storage was the cheapest. They only take cash so keep that in mind when booking. I would highly recommend using this company and will definitely use them again in the future.

In fact, even if you're moving within the same state but you have to go through another state or country first, it's likely considered an interstate move, rather than a local one. That's because the movers are technically transferring items between state lines, which means they'll be responsible for having the correct licensing and insurance in place.
Long-distance moves are much more complicated to plan, typically requiring you to pay numerous extra expenses for everything from shipping items to renting storage space.

If you're asking your movers to transport large, hard-to-move items, like pianos, for instance, you'll likely pay an extra fee. Likewise, if your apartment building doesn't have an elevator or the truck has to be parked far from your home, you may be charged extra. Look for Reviews and Recommendations
When hiring movers, it's a good idea to both look at reviews online and ask your friends and family members for recommendations. Personal endorsements will go a long way toward helping you determine whether you can expect the company to do a quick and professional job.

During the hiring process, you want to make sure of three things: First, that the moving company is reputable and has the proper licensing and insurance. Second, that the movers are dependable, professional and committed to doing the job correctly. Finally, that the estimate provided is binding and that you're aware of any potential excess costs. For long-distance or interstate moves, you can easily check that companies have the proper licensing and insurance, which is a clear indication that they're legitimate. All interstate moving companies must be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, so call 888-368-7238 to confirm the licenses, insurance and credentials of the movers you're considering. The FMCSA can also tell you if any complaints have been filed against a particular moving company.
Check with the American Moving and Storage Association
For both local and long-distance moving companies, AMSA is another good place to check out a company's legitimacy. Moving companies aren't required to be an AMSA member, but the ones that are have committed to the association's rules and regulations, which protect both the companies and the consumers hiring them. If a company isn't an AMSA member, that doesn't mean it isn't reputable, but an AMSA membership is a clear indication of legitimacy.

Choose a Moving Company That Plans Ahead
Moving companies can better keep your belongings safe when the movers plan ahead. What does this mean? Many companies take extra time to measure doorways, halls and stairways to find the safest route in and out of your home. They should also provide furniture blankets, covers and moving pads to keep both your home and your belongings free of scratches or other damage.

There are some things you can control on moving day and some things you simply can't, such as the weather. If you're moving on a snowy, icy or rainy day, keeping all of your paths, stairways and walkways clear and dry is crucial. If you do decide to give a tip, divide it evenly and give money to each individual, rather than giving the entire sum to the head mover and expecting it to be doled out equally. One type of tip to avoid: alcohol. It's usually illegal for movers to have bottles of alcohol in the truck or van, so tipping a bottle of wine or liquor could get them into trouble.
