Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest encompasses an area of more than 6 million acres. It offers a range of recreational opportunities, such as hiking, biking, camping, picnicking, fishing and backpacking. The US Forest Service maintains a location in Sparks, Nev., and provides a variety of volunteer opportunities. Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is a habitat that supports several bird, animal, plant and fish species. It offers maps and brochures, as well as publishes a range of articles on wildlife-related issues. The forest is a part of the US Forest Service, which is an agency of the Department of Agriculture. The US Forest Service manages public land in more than 150 national forests and over 15 grasslands that encompass an area of nearly 190 million acres. The agency works in partnership with universities and nonprofit organizations worldwide.
