During her time in New York, she worked at successful Chiropractic, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy offices. It wasn’t until she moved to Richmond, VA, and started studying Massage Therapy that she knew she found her passion. Chiropractic adjustments or manipulations are a non-invasive, manual procedure that has been proven to reduce pain, improve range of motion, and decrease muscle tightness and hypertonicity. Our goal in performing an adjustment is to promote normal mechanics and function of the spine, extremities, and supporting soft tissues. While adjustments are the most common treatment used by a chiropractor, at Active Chiropractic it is one of many tools we utilize to resolve your condition, restore your body’s function and improve performance.

Pain-free movement is essential for the health of your joints. Over time, the demands of life like poor posture, sitting all day, repetitive movements, old injuries, and new injuries can all cause the joints in your body to become stiff, tight, or lack proper function. Eventually, the wear and tear causes degenerative changes like osteoarthritis, degenerative discs, and/or joints. Chiropractic manipulation targets your problematic areas to simply improve the mobility and function of a faulty joint.

Many components comprise pain-free functional movement including adequate posture, ROM, muscle performance, motor control, and balance reactions. Impairments of each component could potentially alter functional movement resulting in or as a consequence of pain. Utilizing the Selective Functional Movement Assessment, the clinician is able to identify key functional movement patterns and describe the critical points of assessment needed to efficiently restore functional movement. This approach is designed to complement the clinician’s existing exam and intervention model with the prescription of movement-based therapeutic exercise. The Selective Functional Movement Assessment serves to efficiently integrate the concepts of posture, muscle balance, and the fundamental patterns of the movement system into musculoskeletal practice. Additionally, it provides feedback for the effectiveness of the therapeutic exercise program, which targets dysfunctional movement patterns and related impairments.

Traditionally, soft tissue injuries have been treated with muscles relaxants, anti-inflammatory medications, rest, heat, ice, ultrasound, traction, massage, acupuncture, joint manipulation, stretching, and strengthening exercises. Often, these approaches will only provide temporary relief because they fail to deal with the underlying cause — scar tissue adhesions. Passive approaches, such as muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatory medications, rest, ice, ultrasound, and acupuncture, all focus on providing relief to your symptoms but do nothing to address adhesion formation and muscle restrictions. Active approaches, such as joint manipulation, stretching, and exercises are often necessary to provide complete rehabilitation of your injury and to restore full strength and function to your muscles. But, even active approaches are not as effective as they could be and will be much slower to provide relief and recovery if the scar tissue adhesions aren’t dealt with.
