Ophthalmology
He received his medical degree from St. Louis University and completed his ophthalmology residency training at the University of Chicago Hospitals. He practiced comprehensive ophthalmology from 1994 – 2005 in southern Minnesota. After experiencing personal health issues, he developed a great concern for low vision patients and pursued a fellowship in the field in 2006.
Macular Degeneration
Macular degeneration is a problem with a part of the retina called the macula. The macula is responsible for the vision that is straight ahead of you, having clear vision, your ability to see faces, to read, and to drive. The macula deteriorates or degenerates with macular degeneration, and you can lose the ability to do these things. Macular degeneration tends to occur after the age of 50, and has a tendency to run in families. There are two types of AMD.
Cataracts
A cataract is a clouding of the clear crystalline lens inside the eye. This clouding causes blurring of the vision because the light is not able to focus properly inside the eye.

He then completed an internal medicine internship and Ophthalmology residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center where he received the honor of a top resident physicians from the University Hospital, in addition to receiving the outstanding resident research award. In his final year, he served as chief resident.

The retina senses light and color which is then interpreted in the brain. The damage to the retinal vessels is known as diabetic retinopathy.
