Since its founding in 1975, Basic Machinery Company has grown from a small start up business to become a premier provider of materials handling and processing solutions to the brick manufacturing industry, as well as other dry bulk materials handling clients, in the United States and around the world. The company was founded over a quarter century ago in central North Carolina situated strategically to serve brick manufacturers in this clay rich region of the southeastern United States. In the early 1980's Basic evolved from its limited role as a commissioned sales agent, representing numerous key suppliers to the structural clay industry, to become an OEM manufacturer of a broad line of products, including complex automated systems, for brick plant applications. In 1986 the company established an Industrial Equipment Division (IED ) to pursue opportunities in other industries which utilized many of the same bulk materials handling products which are incorporated in brick plants such as reclaimers, conveyors, crushers, vibrating screens, feeders, hammer mills, and similar equipment. In fact, the single largest project outside of the traditional brick industry in the company's history, was a pet litter plant for a dominant pet products company. Since clay is the principal raw material used to make pet litter Basic was approached by the customer to enlist its support to design clay crushing, drying, screening and processing equipment for the new plant. As the relationship grew and the customer came to recognize that Basic had considerable experience in designing, building and equipping clay grinding plants for the brick industry the company was asked to build much of the processing machinery and plant moving equipment for the project. Finally, the customer designated Basic as its general contractor to manage the project as a "soup to nuts" turnkey arrangement. Inasmuch as the industry is now populated by larger, financially sophisticated firms focused on enhancing their competitive position through cost reductions and productivity gains, the trend toward plant automation has strengthened. Basic has worked, at one time or another, with nearly every brick manufacturer in the United States to deliver clay processing and brick handling machines and systems toward that end. The company holds general contractor licenses in several states in response to the strong market demand for its total turnkey combined manufacturing and construction services. Additionally, Basic has a successful track record of exporting its products. Large-scale systems produced by the company can be found in Russia, Uzbekistan, Mexico, the Caribbean Basin, Sri Lanka, and Botswana to name a few. The company's signature product line includes material preparation systems, kiln car moving equipment, automated brick setting machines, and unloading, dehacking, and packaging machinery. Additionally it offers overhaul, repair, and upfit services on existing facilities and machinery systems. Also available is a high quality line of after-market extruder wear parts, including chromium iron augers, at very favorable prices.
