Optometric physicians, or optometrists, are trained not only to test their patient's seeing ability and prescribe contacts and glasses, but also to detect, manage and treat diseases of the visual system such as glaucoma and diabetic eye disease.Undiagnosed visions problems will make going back to school for many Washington children a daunting task. These problems make learning frustrating and difficult for kids, and increased computer use at school is exacerbating the situation. The good news is, children whose vision problems are detected early through an annual eye exam by an optometric physician can be treated. Eighty percent of our children's learning in their early years is through their vision.
