Child Support
This form of financial obligation for oneâ€™s children is available to parents, guardians, andÂ as reimbursement to governmental agencies (i.e, Department of Child Support Services). TheÂ amount of the support is determined by a very complex mathmatical formula set forth by theÂ legislature. In essence, it is a â€œnet taxâ€ figure taking into consideration the gross income of eachÂ parent, their respective tax obligations, and the percentage of time each parent has responsibilityÂ for the children. The calculation is made by computer (usually Dissomaster), which is referred toÂ as â€œguidelineâ€ support. Except in hardship cases, or the partiesâ€™ agreement otherwise, the courtÂ is required to order the guideline amount.

Marriage is an official status as a civil contract under the law. For it to be valid and legally recognized in the state, certain conditions must have been met before it was entered into. For a spouse to want to terminateÂ the marriage by annulment, there must beÂ sufficient legal grounds to do so. Acceptable grounds are limited and include a prior court finding of insanity or fraud perpetrated by one of the spouses in theÂ inducement to marry. When a marriage is terminated by annulment, it has the legal effect of having never happened: no communityÂ property characterization attaches to any of the assets or debts acquired after the date ofÂ marriage, and no spousal support is available to either party.
