Been going to dr. Silver for years now albeit, i only go every other year cuz my eyes are pretty good lol...But i've still been there over the years nevertheless! They are very thorough on your eyes...Complete with all the standard tests: peripheral (follow the little blinking light!), reading the chart, close-up reading, checking good lenses against bad ones to find the best for you. They even have a gizmo that takes a picture of the inside/back of your eye which they use to compare against past photos. Very helpful for early detection of things such as glaucoma! As for the eyeglasses...They have a huge assortment to choose from at really reasonable prices so you don't have to go somewhere else to get specs. I just bought a kick-ass pair of bebe's for about $157 (not including the lenses). They also accept insurance so all in all, my last visit including the glasses with uv protection and anti-glare came to a whopping $100.:)
Macular Degeneration
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of vision loss in people 50 years or older in the United States. It involves damage to the part of the eye called the macula: a small but extremely important area of the retina. The macula is responsible for all of the eyeâ€™s central and detailed vision. The majority of AMD cases involve the â€˜dryâ€™ form, a slow progressing change in the macular tissue. If left unmonitored, the dry form can progress to the more severe â€˜wetâ€™ form.

Cataracts
A cataract is typically a natural clouding and yellowing of the clear lens inside the eye. It can be compared to a window that is frosted or yellowed. The amount and pattern of cloudiness within the lens can vary. Oneâ€™s vision will also vary, depending on the location and the extent of the opacification. Common symptoms of cataract include: a painless, gradual blurring of vision, glare, light sensitivity, poor night vision, double vision in one eye, needing brighter light to read, fading or yellowing of colors.

We also check to make sure the eyelids are functioning properly and for any other conditions that could cause dry eye.

Diabetic retinopathy is caused by systemic diabetes. A large majority of people with diabetes will have some form of mild NPDR, even though it has not affected vision yet. The longer a person is diagnosed with diabetes, the more likely they will develop diabetic retinopathy.

Vision therapy is a doctor-supervised, non-surgical and individualized program designed to correct certain vision problems and/or improve visual skills. Vision and sensorimotor deficits can cause eyestrain, headaches, blurred or double vision, loss of place while reading, and difficulty maintaining attention on close work. Vision therapy sessions include procedures created to enhance the brainâ€™s ability to control eye movements, eye teaming, eye alignment, focusing abilities and/or visual processing skills. It can also help reduce eye fatigue due to computer vision syndrome experienced by many adults and children. You can think of vision therapy as physical therapy for the eyes and the brain. Overall, the goal of vision therapy is to help people achieve comfortable binocular vision and to treat visual problems that cannot be remediated by the use of eyeglasses, contact lenses and/or surgery alone.
